Well, this really isn't a topper, but a modification to the machine top.  I bought scrolling LED displays (automotive type) on EBay and mounted them in the machine tops. Used Hot Glue, electrical tape and some glass cut at the hardware store. Tapped into the 12V lines in the machine. Can program up to 10 messages.

Hey autoslot good post and welcome to NLG. Are these displays programmed by computer or a button system on the back of the display? Are the just alphanumeric or can graphics be put on them as well?    K+ for posting!

They list for $39, but they will take $32 with free shipping.
They provide a remote control for programming.  Two I got from them have sensors both front and back for the remote, but another has only one sensor on the back.  On that one, I just open the top door and the remote signal reflects enough to hit the back sensor.
Alphanumeric only.  You can adjust the scrolling speed.  On one I can also adjust the brightness, but not on the other two.  I guess it just depends on which ones they ship out.
I removed the plastic ends, cut off the cigarette lighter plug and used T-Tap connectors to pick up 12V from the bill validator wiring harness.

Last Christmas Best Buy had these small scrolling gift cards that fit nicely behind the paytable glass. They were battery operated but you could easily change them out.
Being in Canada there were not available here. However I was generously gifted ..... and heck he 3c USD is now worth 5c Canadian !!! I might just have to cash these in.

Just a heads up. When moving between a DBV145 and DBV200 head. The 145 power supply needs to be changed out with the stronger one from the 200.
If you look at the two they are pretty much identical except the 200 has vents.

Anyways the reason I bring this up is that if you continue to use the 145 you get flakey behavior from the bill head. This says to me that its weak.

SO if your slot is on a 145 head you might just want to get the 200 power supply just to be on the safe side.

If you already have a 200 head or a WBA - I can't really comment.......about the needs of the head vs what you are drawing.

Thanks for the info.  Mine are all WBAs.  The display pulls anywhere from 50-250mA, depending on the amount of LEDs used in the scrolling message.
