Title: igt barcrest top dollar code 64/ FIXED
Post by: kenokarz on February 02, 2009, 02:35:14 AM
got a igt  barcreast top dollar and it shows a code 64, the comm board has a green light flashing when door is shut, tray out and hopper
out to see comm board, light is on the power supply but i dont think it is working , you can press upper box  test button and this does nothing
anyone have a power supply for sale or the pin puts so i test to see if this unit is working before i buy a power supply
power supply is made by sanken power units part # is sps036L , maybe this is not even the right power supply, for all i know

It seems mine had did this once upon I time.  I re-seated all boards pulled and re-seated connections and it worked for me.  Did you just get the game-?  Probably jim would be the authority on that game as he just recently had about 12 or so of them and has had worked on many more than that-My guess anyway.  Thanks B.

I've been looking for an upper power supply for a barcrest too,
but have not been able to find one. If i just knew the voltages
coming out of the switcher, i'm sure a computer power supply
could be used. But I don't know the pinout.

according to that picture the game uses 24 and 36 volts.
but i don't frankly see how that is possible. from what i
remember, all that is needed is 5 volts.

i should go to clyde's and measure voltages and take
pictures there. he has a couple working barcrests. t his
would be helpful for the repair of these in the future.

i think the 36 volts is to run the lights on the bonus round

if anyone has pics of the barcrest inside top box, power supply  and also the inside door by coin mech, i need pics of the coin mech harness
thanks b, i wll get jim a call tonight

update   :37- :37-             , 1st i thought this was a problem with the power supply, changed with good power supply, still same code checked all the wires in the mpu 4 board, red led on so the +5 was ok , open mpu 4 board to find a  varta 2.4 volt 110mah ni cad, im getting .53 volts. im not sure and wont have time to get a batery til tomorrow, can i use a 3.6 volt  ?? or should i try and find a 2.4 v , no luck in the internet for one, everthing on the s plus side of this machine runs fine reels spin on startup also b/v runs shows credits and then goes into code 64, no display on top box at start up. any ideas would be a great help, thanks

As you know .53 volts will not cut it!.  Sounds like you are close.  I can still open my top dollar up and see.  I have never had any problems with this game so tell me what you want me to look at if needed.  These batteries  are known to take a dump at any time as we all know and temp. changes hot/cold seem to zap them a lot quicker from my experience.  Just like a auto battery-The cold zaps/drains the cells -electrolite freezes and fuses the plates -simiular principal.  Here to help if needed-I will tear my game down as you have same to fix yours -if needed.  Thanks B.

barry, thank for all the help, but i wont make you take you game apart  :97- :97-, im changing the battery tonight will let you know whats up
i have a mpu4 board on the way if this does not work, the only other thing it could be is that little restitor pack  inside the s plus
coming from the mother board to the comm board, its wraped in shrink tube,  or the sound board assy, nothing left in side machine,

If you have a bad or missing cable assembly that plugs into (mother board)  J12 and J9, bad  in-line cable "resistor pak",  bad junction comm board....will give error 64.  I'll post pics of what I'm referring to.  May help someone who picks up a  IGT/Barcrest in the future.

On the 2nd pick COMM board ?   Isn't that just player tracking and can be eliminated with no issues  :103-

You have to have it on a Barcrest, that is where the wires Chris has pictured goes to, if anyone has ripped out the player tracking on a Barcrest they have learned this the hard way

Thanks for clearing that up for me Jim.    Guess I'm glad I didn't have a Barcrest when I took mine out and tossed it in the pile.

Dave looks like I have one of them laying around somewhere in a box,let me know if you need it.

Still on the learning curve, can someone tell me if all the S+ Barcrests are MPU 4 and if so when did it switch to MPU 5 and what is the difference.   ** learning curve** , be nice

I don't know for sure but my guess is when they went to the 960 platform in 2000? as the S+ platform uses the 4 and were made into 1999 on that platform

From what I have seen and anylized I have to concur though I do know they are running two diff. set-ups in the newer bar-crests and both have nearly the same end result/game play.  Think this was done for two reasons, simplicity and security.  just my observations.  B.

The S+ Barcrest MPU4 Power supply actually only produces -12VDC, +12VDC and +34VDC coming out of the power supply unit itself. Other needed voltages to run the Top Box are + 5VDC and + 48VDC but those are produced by the MPU4 circuit using the power suppliy voltages. The power supply has 2 connector plugs located on the side of the unit. The plugs are:
CN3, (a 9 pin connector plug with 6 wires coming from the MPU4)
and:
CN4, (a 12 pin connector that also has 6 wires coming from MPU4).
The voltages coming out of the supply are as follows:
CN3 Pins 1&2 not used
Pin 3 = -12VDC
pin 4 = -12VDC (return line)
Pin 5 = Not used
Pins 6/7 = 0 volts (Same as Ground) going back to the Voltage regulator on mpu4.
Pins 8/9 = +34VDC

Bottom Connector (CN4)
Pins 1/2/3 = +12VDC
Pins 4 thru 9 are not used
Pins 10/11/12 = 0 volts (Same as ground) going back to voltage regulator on mpu4

Hope this is helpful to someone who needs it!

Heres an update on the MPU4: In case anyone is in a bind and in need of an MPU 4 model barcrest power supply and cant find a working unit it should be known that you can use a newer and more readily available MPU 5 power supply on the MPU4 MPU and it works perfectly. Just refer to the wire schematic photo shown below showing the MPU4. The Mpu 5 units already have the output voltages listed on the sticker on the side of the unit which makes it a no brainer to simply repin the MPU 5 side molex connector. The mpu 5 outputs 37VDC on pins 15 and 16 which is 3 VDC more than the MPU4 supply puts out (34VDC) - no worries the extra 3 volts wont damage the MPU because it has a voltage regulator circuit in place which limits the current to the 34volts needed. Anyways, I did this swap on a Top Dollar machine and we ran it everyday, all day and night for 2 weeks straight and it worked perfectly without a hitch.  Heres a few pics. If anyone needs help with this just let me know.

Just to let you know there are S+ Barcrest machines with MPU5's in them, the Little Devil has an MPU5, and its power supply does have a +5v output.
MPU4's are used primarily for the lighted top box options and the MPU5 is used to control other devices such as the reels in the top box as well as other mechanical devices

Thanks
Wes

Thanks railroad94

As you can see, since IGT bought out Barcrest and created Barcrest USA,
the newer S2000 Barcrest machines have very little in common with the older S+ units.

Its not about the product its the brand.....

They buy up the company, own the patents then bury the product replacing it with their own flavor....

We call this Microsoft 101. What do you think happened to Paradox, and Foxpro..... now Access.
