Title: Payout problem
Post by: JanGbg on November 28, 2013, 02:53:15 PM
Hi!
I have fixed an old Bally Super Continental. But I still have one problem with it.
It pays out correct if you play 1 to 3 coins, but if you pay 4 coins the hopper get crazy when I win.
Normaly the hopper pays winning Award and get a reset puls and start again if you pay more then one coin. But when I play with 4 coins the hopper  never stop until it's empty....

Hi Jan.

I'm a newbie so I don't know what model number your machine is but if you go to the main forum page to the far right you will see a blue bar with "NLG File System Downloads".

There is an entire universe of stuff on there dedicated to Ballys and Bally EM troubleshooting including a special file written in terms even newbies like me can understand.  If you go to that link and scroll down to Bally EM just keep looking ang clicking til you get to a file that looks like someone typed it up on a typewriter years ago.  They just might have.

Here is the direct link but sometimes for new kids like me the links don't work:

The reason your post caught my eye is I'm working on the same problem with my Bally 809-N.

It's called a run-away hopper.  Mine's gonna be a thrown-over-the-balcony-hopper soon.

I'm just eliminating things one by one but I went with checking my progressive light board and wiring first since it seemed to have fewer things to eliminate and wouldn't need to be de-grimed or de-gunked.  I'm working on the hopper now.

Good luck with yours.

Hey Elle,

Your run away hopper problem may be in the top feature unit. One of the the X or multiplier units might be dirty or not operating properly. Which multiplier is giving you problems?

You can take the light board loose and watch the reels as they advance. Make sure they dont ground out. Good place to start.

Thanks Dave! But the reels? I thought it it some problem with the hopper or relays up in the top-section...

What happens when you play 5 coins?
Can you post pictures of the top unit?
Always look at your payboard after a mispay, to see where the wiper fingers are advanced to.
If you have an X4 unit (didn't think Conty's had them...?) then your X4 is at fault.  Either it is not advancing one step when a coin goes out, or the little fingers on the X4 board are not making contact.
Sounds like an intriguing problem.
Is you machine a electric step payout or a mechanical?
Check your wiper fingers on your odds disc, and clean and oil the buttons.
Watch what happens when the top unit is down, when the machine operates on 1 thru 5 coin payouts.  See if you notice that #4 coin payouts look or sound differently.
Pics will help, or you can describe from the Bally parts manual.

What I see quickly is that the arm is out of position on the picture I marked on. This might not be the run on problem but it is an issue. Enlarge the pic and I drew on the bottom right.

Dave, that's an outboard wiper. With that off track you would lose part of your high pays.
A very interesting looking hopper board.
I also notice no X units in your top unit, so this machine pays and then resets and repays for every coin in played.
hit 10 oranges, with 5 coins played, it pays 10 resets, pays 10 again, resets, pays 10 again, resets, and you get the idea.
You must first see that your payboard is able to step up to 200 coins (maybe 250).
Look at your fingers and you see they are stuck at 30 coins paid out. I posted some troubleshooting tips
somewhere on stepping your hopper.
Is this a mechanical stepper or electric?
I suggest you try a large pay with one coin played and see if it pays correctly or runs away.
Good pics, thanks.  Can you post some of your payout structure, and the award glass.

Thanks Dave for your observation! I have set it to the right position now.

Thats correct, it pays for example 10 coins and reset 4 times if you play 5 coins.
I simulate 3 3-bars who should pay 200, and it payed exactly 200.
I post some more pics!
