Hello Everyone,

I Just bought my first 5 Slot Machines, (3)S+, (1)S2000, and (1) Bally 6000. I was able to Convert all from Hopper pay to Hand pay except for 1 S+. It is a Cartoon Wild Cherry with SP731 and SS3499. I prob missed this topic somewhere but, everytime I change The Max hopper pay in options it automatically sets the Bill Acceptor credit limit to 0 also and disables my Game. Can this be done without buying a new chip? I wouldnt know where to start with chip updates? Is there a way to change The Progressive payout from 5000 to like 3000?
Also, The Bottom lamp light Flashes rapidly all the time even when The Game seems to be working properly but shuts off when it wants to.Hmmm!
Please Help,
Bill

SP 731 won't do that 0 Hopper Pay and still allow BV to Credit, I bet your others were SP 1271 or somewhere close to it

Yeah, The others are 1271's and 1048's. What do I have to do to Make the 731 a Handpay unit?

Yeah, The others are 1271's and 1048's. What do I have to do to Make the 731 a Handpay unit?

The hopper limit and credit limit are the same setting on the SP731 so you can't have credits on the machine that can be hand-paid when the cashout button is pressed (the credits will always be paid from the hopper). You can, however, set the jackpot lockup limit to a higher amount. Any single win over the jackpot lockup setting will be a hand pay. You will not be able to convert those wins to credits on the machine. There is one other setting to set a partial pay on a lockup. If you set this, then a partial pay, in the amount that you set, of a lockup jackpot will pay to the credit meter/hopper when you hit a jackpot.

If you want to have lots of credits build up on the machine that then become a hand pay when you cash out (i.e., go coinless), then you'll have to upgrade to the SP1048 or the SP1271.

Any of the vendors listed at the top of the site can fix you up with one.
I would also recommend getting a two Set chips and Clear chip (4 chips total) if you don't already have these.
To change 731 to 1271 you would follow the game change instructions for the S+
On the home page of this site there is a link to RICKS FAQ which has all of the instructions.

A set chip is used to re-activate your bill validator after a game change. It is also used to change denominations like say from 25c to 05c or a dollar.
A SET 23 is good to use with both a 731 and 1271 however with newer game chips if you want to program PROGESSIVE functions you need a SET 90 chip.
A SET 90 chip won't work with a 731.

Progressive options - require that you have a progressive display in your slot. The IGT progressive display which replaces the progressive sticker is programmed using the SELF TEST button in your slot with the 731, when you upgrade to a 1271 you need a SET 90 to program these options. If you don't have one of these displays you don't need the SET90. Adding in a progressive display is only one of several things you can do to "pimp your slot". My thoughts on recommending you get both chips is that given the weight of a chip its not going to add anything to the cost of shipping so if you are going to pay $7.00-$12.00 bucks to get something shipped to you then you might as well order a bunch of stuff. The other kind of a progressive display is called a Mikohn and it lets you do both messages and values. In this case you use a PC to program the Mikon but you do need to activate the slot to use it, and with 1271 I believe this requires a SET90 (albiet it might be able to be activated in the main menu without it - someone else will need to jump in here and validate this point).

A clear chip is only occasionally used when the machine gets screwed up. This CLEARS the CMOS and brings it back to factory goodness.
- the accounting information is kept in CMOS, when the game chip is changed out to a signficatly different revision, this information gets corrupted.
normally it re-formats the information and sorts the itself out if you are going from a low number (like 731) to a high number (lke 1271) however if you go backwards the older game chip
doesn't know what to do with the newer format of the information and you end up having to use a clear chip befpre the slot works right again.
- A battery failure (error 12) often causes the cmos to get corrupted, and after a battery change you are unable to make common errors like a 61 go away. A clear makes everything right.

Hope this points you in the right direction - again Click on Ricks Faqs for tons of good info on your slot.

Jay, did you mean a SET026? If you meant 23, would you send me some info on it as I have none.  propeller Thanks, Stat. garfield

Jay,
Thanks for the great info. Thats the info i needed. However, one more noob question! Does The SP1271 chip i need have to be custom to match my game theme or is the game Theme info stored on the SSchip? The Techs I bought these slots from have these chips. I know because he changed the denomination in front of me with what i guess was a set 90 chip. I saw him pull the board out and replace eprom and change denom on screen. I want to ask them to sell me a 1271 but is that all the info he would need to know? oh and i know you said i should get the set26 and clear chip.

THere are two chips that control the game.
This is the Reel Chip and Game Chip.

The reel chip (SS) controls the theme. It has the info about the paytable, payback percentage, reel strip order etc.
There is a info sheet called a PAR sheet (paytable and reel) that is available for each SS chip.
There are different series of SS chips  - Most are type 0 games - which have no special features.
Type 5 games are usually the DELUXE games like Double Diamond Deluxe that have nudge up and down features. If the diamond is above the payline it nudges down and below it nudges up. On the Balloon bars theme the balloons just nudge up, on Slam Dunk the basketballs just nudge down.
There are also other TYPES such as Spin to you win, Haywire, Volcano, etc

The Game chip (SP) that you use must support the TYPE of game. So a game chip that supports TYPE 0 games could work with 50 or so different SS chips.
The game chip controls more of the functions of the machine such as the bill validator, denomination, hopper pay, credit pays etc. The sequence of how you press the self test button and what different codes that show up on the Winner Paid display are described in a info sheet called a PSR (program summary report). Again there is a PSR for the 1271 and a different for a 731 etc.

R273 created a SIMPLIFIED guide that covers all of the common chips and you can find a copy in the UPLOAD a New FILE section. Its a Excel spreadsheet.

Since this particular slot has a 731 the techs either used a SET 15 or the SET 26. The Set 90 is only really used with the 1271 (and later) and mostly only when progressive features are used. Just some trivia.... The set 26 can support penny denomination - on games that support penny. The set 15 can only go as low as a nickle. The SET 26 is pretty universal tool.

To truly change denomination you usually change the coin head (the silver thing on the outside of the machine where the coin goes in), the wheel inside of the hopper because a dollar token is larger than a quarter and needs to be lower than the quarter to pass through the optic correctly .... or in the case of a penny needs to be held higher. The sample coin in the comparitor needs to be changed, the denomination sticker in the pay glass window, and if you are going from a large coin like a dollar you need a CC-33 comparitor vs a CC-16 for the smaller sized coins/tokens.  If you use something like a dollar or a nickle there are also spacers that make the optic wider (prevents coin jams) or if you are using dimes (smaller).

Ok, so if i understood correctly from different threads that I have read, to Change my (SP731 Quarter game) to a (SP1271 Nickel game), I have to:
(1)Power down unit,
(2)Replace 731 Game eprom with the 1271 eprom,
(3)Power up unit, go thru neccessary steps of clearing the error 61 on display,
(4)power down unit
(5)Replace The new 1271 eprom with the set# eprom
(6) power up unit
(7) credit window will show 0, press test button til 9 0 appears, press the spin button to change to 9 1 enabling BV
(8) press the TEST button til 0 appears in credit window
(9) press spin button to choose denominations
(10)Press test button til 0 appears and power down unit
(11)Remove set chip and install 1271 chip
(12)Power up unit and 61 will appear
(13)Press test button til 61-1 appears
(14)close door and turn reset key
(15)61-1 clears and game is now enabled?

if I have incorrect  info please correct me
thanks

Your list looks good to me....

However between steps 2 & 3 on your list.

After you power up following the change from a 731 to a 1271
Close the door
You might (likely) get a 65-3 error, turning the reset key will change this to a 65-2 which can then be cleared by pressing the self test.
This will leave you with the 61 you are expecting.

This is caused by bad cmos data which is what happens after a major game change.

You were right!
The Major game change did cause it to go error 65-3 and I knew exactly what to do since you pointed that out.
However, I have a strange problem.

Now that it is 1271, when game is in idle mode, The Cashout button enable and disables the bill acceptor. How do I fix That? I want my BV enabled all the time

Check the validator limit (test page <7>, option [5]), the credit limit (<7> [1]), and check the Bill Acceptor Pay Mode (setup page <0>, option [8]). If you always want bills to go to the credit meter, set this to 1. It is probably set to 0 now.

I suspect that the limits are too low and option 8 is set to follow the player. That would cause the dbv to turn off when you enabled credit play.

<EDIT> There appears to be a copy of the SP1271 PSR in the Submit a new File section at the moment.

They say feed a man a fish and he eats for today, teach him to fish .....

The options for the S+ are detailed on a PSR (Program Summary Report) As stat mentioned there is a 1271.pdf in the Upload a New file area.
These are not the most straight forward documents to read so in addition to the 1271.pdf there is a document called S+ Simplified PSR Option sheets that make a great guide until you become more familar with reading the document. One of our other members R273 created these.

IF you get stuck don't be afraid to ask.
