Title: Sega sound help please
Post by: mike11 on August 28, 2013, 05:07:12 AM
I have a sega hang on with no amp but it used to work decent with pc speakers ..... A sega amp was hooked up which was not the correct one now there's nothing ...... What I've done so far ...... Reburned all the sound Roms and swapped the z80 with a known good one along with remove and check the diodes on the sound board and came up with nothing ...... Where do I go from here ??? This board has quite the pile of ics on it .... I don't even know where to start ..... Pt. no is sega 834-5706-01
This has turned into almost a year long witch hunt ..... Need help please !!
Thanks

You are troubleshooting it the wrong way. Hopefully you didn't introduce any new problems. :(

Any time you have an audio problem with a game board you must make the determination if it's an analog problem or a digital one. In other words, is it a CPU/ROM/RAM issue or is it a problem with a cap, op-amp, or other analog section component that amplifies/buffers/mixes the sounds?

This is where you need an oscilloscope. use it to check the outputs of the digital section. If outputs are there then you need to look at the analog section of the board - the part between the output of the digital section and the wires where you plug into the amp.
