I just got a promotion from Harrah's and was surprised that now Planet Hollywood is part of their properties. When did this happen? I don't remember PH being on the last promotion I got. Interesting.....

From my memory...about 6 months ago sounds right.

PH, formerly Aladin, use to be our favorite watering hole.  Great comps.  When Planet took over everything went down hill fast.  Starting with revamping that cafe into a place that sold hot dogs...sigh.  You use to be able to go into that cafe and for about $12 get a huge breakfast plate (really more like a serving platter) of eggs, hash, sour dough toast, muffins on the side, and a huge sirloin steak that was so big it hung over the side of the plate.  Sigh...the good old days.

February 19th was the official day that Harrah's took over Planet Ho, but the takeover was in the works for many months prior.  Planet Ho spent too much money remodeling the place, and then when the economy took a nosedive, any chance of being profitable went south, too.  Harrah's bought a lot of their debt in 2009, and then completed the takeover early this year.

I was there last week and it was packed.

When did the pole dancers start in the casinos?

Almost every casino including downtown had this on display in 1 area of the casino.

Harrahs have topless pools (about $60/head) to go in, free for the women.
Apparenty they have been paying strippers to hang out there......

Wow 60 bucks to get in. Obviously they missed the point that there is a recession in progress. Hmm no thanks, I'll cross the bridge to Canada and see the ballet. It only cost 2.50 to cross the bridge, 10 bucks canadian for the beer and it is totally nude.  yes I think people (guys) would gamble the money rather then pay that to sit by a pool. Wonder if they let you wander around first before you pay to make sure it is worth the 60 bucks Scratch Head Cry Laughing

When did the pole dancers start in the casinos?

Until our recent visit to Vegas, I had never seen the pole dancers either. I took a quick (blurry) pic of one above a poker/black jack tables. She saw me take the pic and smiled afterward, but we both knew I wasn't supposed to take pictures...

It would be an interesting exercise to study what impact these dancers have on the house hold.

If you read the Wizard of Odds page, those following "basic strategy" will produce a house hold of 6%.
Now if you compare that to the Nevada gaming board stats you will see that the casinos routinely report between 22-28% house hold on table games.
Which means that players are either not playing "basic strategy" or are very distracted.

I am wondering if these dancers push this edge up 2-3 points....
I am wondering if they are paid or just work for tips....

Just read an article in Businessweek. In October, Harrah's plans to change its name to Caesars Entertainment.
