I just got back from my trip and I'm really excited about how things went.

First I'd like to thank Jim (archjds) - He went above and beyond to get me this Lobstermania Reel Touch slot machine.   The machine is beautiful.  - Chrome, glass, strips - inside and out.   He had to spend days cleaning the casino gunk off of it.    When I got the machine home he spent over an hour with me going over all of  :162-the different plugs and wiring so the setup and start up would be as smooth as possible!  I couldn't be happier.

The thing is tremendously heavy  (the heaviest i own by far)- so until I can get a few friends over to move it into the game room downstairs, I'll keep it in the living room.

A big thanks!!  Hail  Hail

It logged many miles.

OOOOHHHHH, AAAAHHHH a reel touch 5 reeler.  Hail Hail Hail Hail

That's one of the "wish I had one" slots.  I'd be looking for a Flip Flop Deluxe if I had that hardware.  My wife loves everything frog related (except real frogs  Scratch Head ), so this would be a "way in" to owning a Reel Touch.  stir the pot / get cooking stir the pot / get cooking stir the pot / get cooking

Come to think of it, there's one of every model in that list.  arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow

Actually much longer...I got sick of moving in and out of my truck so the last 12 hours of shopping it out I did completely from the bed of my pick-up in my garage...that's also where I shrink wrapped it when I was finished.  bust gut laughing

Coooooool and the green max bet for $$$  I love it!   -  I just thought of something though -  the machine is 63" tall and the height from my stand to the ceiling in the game room is a tad over 63" -   I'm going to have to put in an additional top box fan before I move this.  I don't want the air flow restricted.

I wonder if our game rooms grow too large if we would be force to buy carbon credits in order to offset the unnecessary pollution created by the machines.  frying pan frying pan frying pan frying pan

I have to ask this - Why oh why would IGT make reel strips that:

1.  Can't be cleaned with any type of liquid

2.  Fade

This boggles my mind!!  If you are in any casino today you just have to notice the  reel IGT games even though they are new look tired and old next to wms.

Well....because they are smart...they make a crap load of money selling replacement strips, power supplies, and other various parts to the casinos.

I have to tell you next to a Bluebird the new IGT games look like something out of Soviet Russia.  Kinda like a Zune next to an iPod.

There has to be a point though where casinos won't put up with inferior quality.

Well...you can't really compare a Bluebird to IGT's S2000 series machines.  Many would argue that IGT's AVP line, designed to compete with Bluebird, is pretty attractive.

Yes Yes- This is exactly what I meant -  the Bluebird vs AVP I think the Bluebird is a much nicer design.  Then I got to thinking -- How many people are walking around the casino looking at the design of the machines?? lol

Well...actually maybe more than we know...especially on a subconcious level.  First impressions is what gets us to sit down in the first place and I believe it's a combination of attraction to both the cabinet and the game itself that gets us to sit down.  There are other factors of course, like seating, lighting, room temperature, and who else is sitting in the area.  It's also something very personal.  One thing I have learned about design in general is that what one person likes, another completely hates.  For example, someone that loves that Ford pick-up truck is likely never going to like the looks or feel of a Acura MDX.

Let me give you a slot machine example.  To me, the Bluebird machine is the nicest of cabinet designs currently available.  Modern, sleek, and I love the curves.  It reminds me of when Mazda put out it's first Miata.  I remember very clearly a significant group of people waiting for months, paying way over retail just to get one, all because they were first to introduce such a unique design with so many curves within the construction inside and out.  There were also an equal number of people that hated the look and signed it off as being too modern and radical in it's design.

Now about a month ago, I was contacted by a past client..lol...who must of had some money burning a hole in his pocket because he asked me point blank "regardless of the cost what do you feel is the nicest machine available in the aftermarket and why?".  So I answered the Bluebird, I love it for it's aesthetics but I also love it for the home use market because games are readily available and it is very easy to change games on the machine.  So he says sight unseen "okay, I'll take it".  Of course I say, well I am going to send you pictures of it and a video of it in play before I deliver anything.  After 2 days of not hearing back from him I decided that maybe he was just pipe dreaming and really was not prepared to shell out $5,500.  I call him up and say are you ready, and he replies, to my absolute shock  lightning bolt and amazement... "I have to be honest with you, I really hate the way that machine looks and really do not want it".  LOL...wow   Duh! I said to myself, you must be crazy...it's gorgeous...are you nuts?  Of course I knew it was a bad idea to actually express my opinion to him and I did not.  Instead I showed him an IGT I-game Plus.  He loved it and ended up buying TWO of them that very morning.

So the moral...beauty in one persons eyes is not necessarily that of another's...and maybe IGT's designer's know more about what the general market wants than I have given them credit for with regards to machine design.
