Hi,

I have a Wild Cherry S Plus that when I switch it on, It keeps burning the tracks on the Backplain(Mother) Board. I am seriously stumped and have no idea where to go from here. I have replaced the PSU and unplugged everything except the whole friggen machine!!!!!!!!!

Anyone Please help!

May I see the burned traces on the motherboard?
I will be able to tell you if that can be repaired or replaced.
I have a feeling your power supply is set for European voltages?
Or the buttons are wired in correctly?
Make sure they're all wired and plugged into the switches the same way.

Open the door, pull out the hopper.
With a multimeter, measure the voltages going to the motherboard Molex.
If you look at it while it's plugged into the motherboard correctly, starting from left to right:
2 orange wires, a brown wire, a blue wire, and 2 green wires.
Set the multimeter at the highest setting, maybe 200Vac.

Stick the black multimeter probe onto the rightmost green wire and the red probe
into the 1st orange wire on the motherboard molex.
You should get a reading of around 12.5Vac.
2nd orange = around 12.5Vac
Brown wire = around 7.5Vac
Blue wire= around 6.5Vac
5th position green wire= nothing.

Now stick the black probe on the 5th position green wire and move the red probe
from the 1st pin to the blue wire and see if you get the same readings.

Let us know what your readings are.
Here's some pictures I took for you to show you how I measured these voltages with the power on.

Look at your spin and or bet max sw the light wire is pluged into the cherry sw and not the lamp..

 it's back feeding 5vcc to the board..

Yep...Joey could be right too!!!
Them wires in the switches need to be the same way too...

Make sure you have the proper size fuses so that they blow first. Then make sure there is nothing under the motherboard (i.e. coins). The with nothing plugged into the motherboard except the power supply cable, start plugging in things until either a fuse blows or something starts smoking. Do not plug the MPU in with power to the machine.

Of course pictures of the traces that are burning would help.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help so far, this is what i have:

nothing plugged into the motherboard except power cable, The track on pin 6 burnt first, I repaired, replaced the Power supply and it burnt from pin 6 through to the Jumper For the MPU Switch.

I will take some pics tomorrow and upload.

Here are the voltage readings I am getting:

Between Green and Orange : 13.2VAC
Between Green and Orange/Green : 13.2VAC
Between Green and Blue/Brown : 2.3VAC
Between Green and Blue : 3.5VAC
Between Green and Green Pin 5 : 10.8VAC

Between Pin 5 and backwards:

Orange and Pin 5: 23.66VAC
Orange/Green and Pin 5 : 10.62VAC
Blue/Brown and Pin 5 : 10.62VAC
Blue and Pin 5: 8.47VAC
Green and Pin 5: 9.95VAC

I am assuming it is a fault with the power supply? seeing nothing else is plugged in. What could it be though? The Transformer or the CAP over the 220VAC input?

Ok, this is still not making any sense.  banghead What jumper? What switch? And how can it be burning up between pin 6 and them if there is nothing plugged in?  Scratch Head

Below is a motherboard with nothing plugged in. The only thing plugged in should be the power suppy cable on J8. If it is still burning traces with nothing plugged in, check all of the pins on the plugs to see if any are bent and shorting to another. And did you pull the motherboard out and look under it for coins etc?

Something is seriously shorted out.
You're getting almost 24Vac off of pin-5 to orange when it should only be around 12 vac !!!

His voltages readings are all over the map...something is crossed somewhere and I'm still inclined to
believe it's what Joey said earlier about a wire crossed under the button deck.

Crossing a wire there causes all kinds of baloney... Tongue Out

That can mean only 1 thing then.
It wouldn't matter if 220volts or 440volts was coming out of the power supply.
There HAS to be a short on the motherboard itself.

lol...okay, I'm going to take an un-educated guess at what he means by that.  arrow

I think what he's saying is that the trace ("jumper"?) on the circuit board is
fried from the 6th pin on the white 6-pin J8 header to 31B & 32A pins on the P2 header?
I've seen this particular trace burn off the MB due to incorrect power supply output voltage on that line.
That happens to be a 12Vac line ( orange wire) at the 6th pin position on the J8 header
coming from the power supply and his is shooting out nearly 24Volts according to the readings he posted?!   Tongue Out

IF the voltage is double, then perhaps he is in a 220v area (per previous quote) and the power supply is strapped for 110v. HOWEVER, if nothing is plugged in, then it still should not be frying any traces regardless how high the voltage is going in.

I agree but it was already fried before he disconnected everything...
which means the there's a short so when he unplugged everything
and turned it back on - other traces went to slot-junkyard heaven... bust gut laughing
