I changed the crystal to a 10 meg and it works good (doesn't tilt) but I have to figure the sound out. The 16 meg is different. .

Why would you do that, the Barcrest chips are designed and require 16 mHz to run properly.  Do you have the correct SP and SS chip to support the Barcrest game you are running. Each had their own SP chip to match the SS theme

I'm running a 10 meg s plus game. A 16 meg s plus game will run at 10 mhz.. Not vice versa..It tilts..Too fast spin

The sound chip is located at location U49 by where the dip switches are/were.

10mHz uses a AY38912 and the 16 mHz YM2413. The Yahama chip (YM2413) is timed and clocked thru a 3.5795 crystal at Y2. The 10mHz version is not.

Put the 16mHz crystal back in and use a 16mHz SP chip and SS chips 100ns or less.

The sound volume is software controlled on a 16mhz board.

I agree with coors, just get the right SP chip.

I have 2 S+ that have that same setup that Coors suggested and
it works great. The only issue I have is the sound
volume is set on 9 and the output is low.

How do you turn up the volume.? There is no volume control on a 16 meg board?

It is in the settings.
Get a PSR for your game chip
and it will  have the procedures.

Sure it's not just a bad speaker?

You won't get sound unless you use a 16Mhz SP chip that supports the 16Mhz board.

There sure is a volume control...

Only, with an 16MHz MPU - you control it from the sound settings in the Options.
Go into the sound options and make all the adjustments you want from there.
Do you know how to work the Options settings...no?
me neither... rotflmao jk

Open the big metal door that's on the very front of your slot machine...
see it? It's that big,big shiny square thing on the front.
There's a latch on the right hand side of the machine...pull upwards with force  and you will hear it unlatch. Slowly pull the whole thing towards the front of your body until it opens all the way towards the left and a piece of very, very strong wire that's attached from the reel shelf to the door is horizontal, and strung tight!
That means the door will not open any more unless you run at full speed form the right hand side of your house, and into the door with your right shoulders like a fullback running football head on in to a defensive tackler!

okay, sorry football season has started, anyways...look down into the machine where the MPU is ...is there a little white button there?
If so, that's the "Test" switch.
If it's not there, look up above the reels on the right hand side where the power switch is...is it there?
No? Then feel behind the power switch and you may feel the nub of the "Test" switch button...is it there? No?
Then look down to the floor of the cabinet on the right hand side of the hopper...is it there? yea!

Now, whenever the little bugger is..press it until you see a number two [2] on your display on the front of that big door....you might have to walk around in order to see it on the bottom of the reel glass...is  it there? No? Then look over to the top right hand corner of the reel glass...is it there? No? Then maybe it over on your big old Seven Systems display panel which is located over the Bill Acceptor bill slot...is it there? yea!

Anyways, wherever it is, keep pressing the little white " Test" button
( where ever you found it from before you found the "Coins Played" display window)
until you see a [2] in that window.
Now walk around that big, big door and press the "Spin" button on the button deck ( yes, it's located on the FRONT of the door too! ) until it gets so loud that the neighbors call the local on you for breaking the noise ordinance code for town you are presently residing in... arrow

Good luck and enjoy your machine!

Remember to post a nice photo of your machine next time so I don't have to type so much ...
( inside and out...generally meaning photographs of your machine of the inside of it and a frontal shot of it....not in the basement and out in the backyard..)
Thanks again!

Also, I'm just kidding ya you know...I had nothing to do and just wanted to type a little... Tongue Out

With the 10MHz board the volume is OK
(from - hurt your ears to can't hear it).
With the 16MHz board 9 is OK,
but if you are in a noisy area
you might not hear every thing.

I am at the same stage in trying to get sound to work using 16mhz boards - I have a ss4703 and a SP1145 which by all accounts is a valid combo - they do work in my game - EXCEPT no sound (and yes the speaker is good AND the sound works with a 10mhz board).  Have tried 2 16mhz boards  - test 2 / 1  and test 3 /1 and 3  /5  - all I get are the reel click).

In case you don't have it, here is the PSR for the SP1145. Looks like there are only two options to work with <0>2 Set to 0 for reel spin and spin stop sounds or set to 1 for reel spin only sound. And <0> 3 Volume control 1 lowest 9 loudest. Not sure what those tests are you did, but as far as I know <2> 50 would be the sound test.

the setup I did was as indicated 2 / 1  to set the sound and 3/1  then 3/5 for the volumn (as 3/1 had no effect) - did this on 2 diff boards - only get the reel click.   guess I will try another 16 board.   Well board 3 works perfectly - went back to the other 2 boards - one is DEAD for sound - the other sound was kinda sorta there - really faint - had to strain to hear it.  so 2 more boards to IGT board grave yard.
