Well, I know it's a little late for 4th of July, but while working on an S+ just now, a loose bare wire arced on the cabinet wall. After that, display was dim and goofy, so checked fuses and found middle (6A) to be fried. Replaced it, but wondering if I could have fried something else? Machine lights up, but NO DISPLAY at all, no response to reset or JP key either.

Has to be a power issue I'm thinking? It's an early S+ with the old transformer thing (not sure if that's what it is?) for power supply.

Thoughts?

Hey Roz,

I have the answer, just throw in a 4th of July kit, and send it this way.  :-)

Messed up thing is it was working good! Darrell said I wouldn't have it up and running today, and about 5 minutes after sending him a pic of it up and working, I took off the external BV and didn't even think about the wires. All had plugs on them, except one little guy (who's now black). When I turned it back on, the displays started flickering and going dim, and I could hear a hum. So I opened the door to find the hum and that's when the fireworks happened.

I think I have it narrowed down to motherboard or transformer...and I'm not looking forward to changing out either of them!

MODIFIED TWICE : FOR ROZ @CV SLOTS THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT IS MISSING IN THE 4TH OF JULY RETRO PICTURES MAY OF BEEN YOUR PROBLEM ON THE S+ WITH SPARKS . COINS OVERSHOOT THE HOPPER AND LAND DIRECTLY ON TRANSFORMER .

Thanks, but the cause was a bare hot wire that had touched the cabinet. Machine hadn't seen a coin yet. I couldn't get it going again yesterday, but I got a tip on the problem so I will try again today.  yes
