Title: How to turn on Bill Acceptor DBV200 on S+ FIXED IT Thanks
Post by: JumpStart on December 10, 2008, 12:16:24 AM
Hi All.  I'm new to the site.  I have two slant top IGT machines Knockdown and Hurricane both 2 coin set up for 25c.  I am in this thread because I have encountered a similar problem as AcePeter.  "When I turn on the machine the bill acceptor cycles and will not light up or take money. It's like it's off."  I did as was suggested by foster and unlike AcePeter I have 9  1 for bill validator enabled.  What are the next steps to solving my problem.  I welcome any and all help.  Thanks.

Welcome, JumpStart.  A few questions so we can help you better.

- Are both machines experiencing the problem where they're set to 9_1 but neither accepts bills?
- Are both machines working for coin play?
- Are either of the machines attempting to take the bills but rejecting them, or does it act like it doesn't even know a bill is there?
- Have you checked for any obvious loose connections or unplugged connectors at the bill validator?
- Where (what casino/state) were those machines from?  (I can't tell by the player tracking panel)
- Where are you located now, on the off chance that a member may be close enough to you to help you in person?

Thanks knaql.

Yes, both machines are experiencing the same problem. The Knockdown had this issue first, days after I acquired the machines.  I called the guy who I purchased them from and he said to swap the bill acceptor with the other machine to see if the problem follows. This is all new to me so I tried it. Well, after the swap neither bill acceptor works.  I swapped back and they both remain broke now. The guy where I got them from is not being very helpful at all, so I am seeking help elsewhere.

Yes, both machines work for coin play.

Both of them act like they don't even know a bill is there.

Yes, I have found nothing obviously loose or disconnected.

I believe they originated at Niagara Falls casino in Canada.

I am in the Toledo Ohio area.

Hi Dan #2.  I'd hoped you all would enjoy my avatar.  You should take up archery.  You never know what you'll find at the range.  It is no longer just a man's sport.

Welcome aboard.
Can you look at the bill acceptors and tell me what numbers are on them?  Perhaps post a pic of the acceptor with the door open.  You may want to try removing and re installing the cash can but hold the cash can downward with a small amount of force.  I cant explain the sound it should make but when it initializes correctly the sound changes and ends with a zzzeeee, zeeee. As I said I can't explain it but if your model is known we can go from there.  I am not far from Casino Niagara (well, about an hour North).

Thanks and good luck,
Wayne

P.S., do you know the archer?  I agree with Dan #2

Thanks Wayne,

The bill acceptors are JCM DBV200.  In order for me to get the picture of the tag on the units I had to open the door and loosen the thumb screws then slide the units out a little and rotate at about a 45 degree angle so the top of the unit was exposed.

I had tried alot to make sure that I got the cash can in right because I first figured that I must have installed something wrong.  So after you suggested it, I tried it again but no change.  Still broke. It did not make any kind of initialization noise.  It seems that you kind of know when it seats correctly, it feels right.  Although it hasn't made the zzeeee noise.  In fact when I remove the can it makes a screechy noise like the motor in the transport unit (I think that is what it is called) is spooling really fast back and forth.  When I put the can back in, no noise.

As far as knowing the archer....I think I may get lots of help if I say she will give out private lessons to my new friends. :89- :89- :97-

Thanks,

Rich

Sometimes on those slants you've really got to slam the cash can in

On the slant it may make the noise when you hold the door switch closed (or pull it if it is that type of switch.)

The archer is very nice but we will try to help and still would have if you had some other pic there....  However private lessons, oops, My wife wouldn't go for that, it's a push sometimes with the slots.

So, to be clear, at one time both machines did indeed accept bills correctly?

Yes.  At first both of them did work correctly.

Yes.  At first both of them did work correctly.

Hmm, well that complicates things a little bit.

When the first one stopped working, what did you do just before that?  Had you removed the cash can to take bills out of it?

Near the back of the stacker area (where the can goes), there is a set of optics - one on each side of the housing.  Make sure that there's nothing obstructing those.  In addition, there is a hole on both sides of the can where those optics shine through.  Look at the cash can (hold it up to a light) and ensure that you can see through the can (that the holes aren't obstructed).

Then, as Brianzz stated -- be VERY firm putting the can back into the machine, close the door (ensuring that the switch for the bill validator door is engaged when you close the door).  Good luck.

I know it drives you crazy I had the same trouble. On one it was the wire loose on cash box and the other I had to change the power supply to to the DBV..Now no problems at all.

One of mine had an optic on the cash can door. The Cam Lock was removed and subsequently the door wouldnt stay shut enough. It would be good for 1 or 2 spins then stop working.
Took me the longest time to figure this out. Nothing that a little duct tape couldn't fix.

Yes in fact a bill was jammed and I pulled the cash can and the DBV.  I found a bill stuck in half hanging out of the DBV.  I pulled it out and reinstalled both units.  It has not worked since then.  At that point I swapped the units as stated in one of the previous posts.

Right before this post I checked and found optics you described.  They appear to be free of obstruction.  Also the holes in the can are clear as well.  I made sure that the can is seated firmly.

I also noticed a difference in the two dbv start up routines.  I made a small video I will attempt to post next.  Hope this will indicate something.

Thanks all for your interest and help so far.

Attached is a small video indicating the start up routine of each machine.  It seems that each of the dbv make different sounds.  Not sure if this is significant in trouble shooting this problem or not.  I can video other thinks if anyone wants if it will help, just let me know.

Hello!

Both the machines are not making the right start-up sounds.  One thing to check that I had an issue with is the power supply.  It's got a black cover on it - does the cover have slits in it like the one pictured below?  There are 2 versions of this supply and you need the one with the slits for a DBV200 - I had an older one once (no slits) with a dbv200 and it did a similar thing where it just kept retrying and would never finish initializing.

Dan #2,

I don't mean to seem totally stupid or anything, but is this the main power supply for the entire machine or is there a seperate powersupply for just the dbv?  I will send a picture of mine on the next post.

Rich

Here are the pictures.

Hello!

No problem.  Now I've never owned a slant, but I would sure think it would be just like an upright - so there would be a separate power supply for the bill acceptor - not the one you have in the pics above.  It plugs into the left side of the bill acceptor head - just follow the cable (white one) and it should go to it...

Dan #2,

The cable goes behind the top glass which is where I think the dbv power supply must be located.  The problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to get behind it.  The top glass door shares the same piano hinge as the door to the dbv and money can.  That door has a lock set in it.  The top glass door does not have any obvious latches or lock sets.  I pulled out the four screws just below the door that has the not active cardplayer card reader, but that does not give access to anything.  I opened up the main door and looked up under where the top glass goes and did not see anything.  I know it must have a latch for access but I can't find it.  I really feel stupid now.  Any suggestions where to look?  Thanks.

Rich

there is a small knob in the center you pull down., you lift the lower panel and reach above the reels.  I wonder if it is a transport problem, I had some troubles in the past with them.

Thanks,
Wayne

Another thought, check your connections to the BV on both sides with the power on. Push and wiggle each of the connections to see if there is a short in the connection and or harness. Turn the power off and pull the connections and check for bent or missing pins.

Thanks Wayne,

Found it just like you described.  What can I check to see if there is a transport problem?

Dan #2,

Both power supplies are just like the one you posted the picture of.  They have the slits.

Ron,

Thanks for your input.  I did as you suggested.  Cycled power and multiple wiggle tests. No loose wires or shorts found.

Just a reminder, this problem occurred when I pulled the DBV and cash can to free up a stuck bill.  Then I tried to swap the DBV with the other machine to see if the problem stayed or moved to the other machine.  It moved to the other machine, but when I put the "non broken" dbv in the original machine neither machine would recognize a bill.  I switched back the dbv to original machines and the problem still remains with both machines.  I figured I must have done something wrong with the installations.

So far,

-checked all dbv electrical connectors are plugged in.
-did a wiggle test to check for loose connectors or shorts.
-made sure that the cash cans are inserted to the best of my knowledge.
-verify correct power supply.
-verify that the optical sensors are free from obstruction.
-verify that holes in cash can are not obstructed.

Any other things to try guys?

Rich

Hello!

Just a thought - are you sure you're getting the transports in correctly - it's kinda of tricky.  On the back of the transport, there are two little pins that must go into holes in the back of the cage - or the gear of the transport won't line up right with the gear in the cash box.  The head watches the cash box during start-up to make sure it's moving correctly - I could see that being the problem here.  I remember having a tough time getting those pins in there right.  I tried to circle them in the pics below...just trying to think of any possible issue here...

Awesome - glad you got it working!

The transport on my machine is a little flakey -- when I first got it I would have intermittent issues with the validator not enabling and it was related to the transport not being seated correctly -- I didn't even think of that, though, for this problem.

Hello Rich!

No problem - just glad to help.  I remember having that same kind of issue when I got my 1st S+ machine and started freaking out because I figured I had broke something :)  You may want to consider making a donation to this forum to help cover the support costs.  It's not something that is required - but it sure is appreciated.  There is a button at the bottom of each page to donate.

Thanks!
