Title: Game Maker monitor only shows line
Post by: 89chevyman on September 28, 2013, 12:23:57 AM
Have a Game Maker that has a line down the middle of the monitor. Game seems to function fine, just can't tell what's being played. Are there any suggestions to try and get the screen back? Tried pulling monitor out and reseting it back in, same thing. Monitor is a touch screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is this a CRT monitor? Have you recently moved it? Is the board on the neck of the CRT loose? Most monitors have dials or buttons to adjust certain monitor features, did you try any of those adjustments?

Yes its a 13" crt. Recently moved. Tried all the adjustments. Will check tube neck.

Line down the middle is horizontal collapse. A line across the middle is vertical collapse. As tacman suggested, check to make sure everything is plugged in. Did it get jolted hard during the move?

Was loaded onto trailer with a dolly. Maybe a bump or two, but not dropped. Checked tube neck and all plugs, nothing loose.

Any other suggestions? The line goes from top to bottom of the screen in the middle (length wise). Touch screen seems operational, you can touch it and see it change in the thin line that's present, just can't tell what is up for play or bets. Thanks.

You're not getting horizontal drive. If you have a multimeter check for 130v at the collector of the horizontal output. It will be the center leg of the big transistor on a heatsink right next to the flyback. Also check to make sure you're getting high voltage to the CRT. Without a high voltage probe, don't use your multimeter, you can generally put your hand on the tube and tell if it's got the telltale static electricity there or not

Thanks I'll have to check that out tomorrow. Thanks. IF it is the transistor, is it readily available and from where? Thanks.

Very common. If the 130v isn't there, turn the machine off and check for short between the outside legs and that middle one. With horizontal collapse and where the machine was working before you moved it I would carefully inspect the board for cracks or bad solder connections also. There are obviously several things that can cause the problem you're having. Process of elimination...
Google the ECG cross reference for that part if you end up needing it or maybe one of the video gurus on here can give you the part number

Okay will do :3- :3- Thanks for the information. Hopefully I'll be able to locate and repair the problem. Not really tech savvy so I hope I don't end up frying myself or do further damage. :25- :25- :25- Thanks again.
