Well, I guess I'll restart my thread by uploading some avatars for embeded images that are now broken.

EDIT: The last two pictures DO work, but they are being automatically reduced by the forum software. If one clicks on them they will animate correctly.

A friend of mine just sent this to me via email.

Quote
If you had purchased £1000 of Northern Rock shares one year ago it would now be worth £4.95, with HBOS, earlier last week your £1000 would have been worth £16.50,  £1000 invested in XL Leisure would now be worth less than £5, but if you bought £1000 worth of Tennents Lager one year ago, drank it all, then took the empty cans to an aluminium re-cycling plant, you would get £214. So based on the above statistics the best current investment adviceis to drink heavily and re-cycle.

Hey everybody, I'm now the proud owner of a Bally 13" V7000 Gamemaker. :136- I finally broke down and got a video slot! :5- :72- :72- :72-

It's fairly beat up and could use some TLC and restoration, but everything works.

The previous owner was using it in demo mode and didn't know much about it, so I couldn't test the dbv and could only run the hopper motor manually to check its function. I did note that it had a dbv200 head programmed through the color $50, so that was one upgrade I wouldn't need.

Well, it turned out that the seller's father had two S+ machines in need of repair, so we went over there after I loaded up the GM. Most of the problems with his father's machines were due to damaged and worn out parts, so between the two of them I was able to leave his father with one running and about 90% fixed and a parts list for the second. I strongly suggested that he join NLG, but he wasn't really as interested in working on the machines as in having them available for the grandkids, which I found odd since he works on his pinball machines and has an extensive model train setup.

So at the end of the day I got this machine for a net cost of $250.

I've been playing with it all morning after getting not nearly enough sleep! LOL. I took the machine out of demo mode and went through all of the setup screens and diagnostics. The dbv works perfectly and takes all of the bills I tested in every direction. I don't care about the color $10s because I have six other dbv200's that are supposed to take them, and not one does.  :25- The machine is a nickel denomination and the hopper pays out correctly with no issues. I changed some of the screen colors and play settings, and added my own "casino" name to the attract mode, and have already lost over $100 to this sucker. :96- The mechanical counters came to life as soon as I was out of demo mode.

The monitor has quite a bit of burn in and the cabinet has a bit of rust, mostly near the door, and the inside of the door has more. However, whatever moisture the machine was subjected to didn't seem to damage much else. The wiring looks okay, although I noticed a cut wire on one harness right at the backplane board connector. :103- I haven't tried to pull the monitor yet so I can't see in there very well, but so far everything seems to work. :103- Worse case, I'll replace the harness.

The only real issue is that the monitor is scratched slightly near the top center, and this plays havoc with the touch screen in that area (due to diffraction? I need to learn more about how these things work. :79-) Fortunately, it only really affects keno, and only for certain numbers. I recalibrated the screen and it's improved a bit.

Pictures are coming. (ADD - but I really need some more sleep first! :97- :97-)

Uh, sleep?  Oh, yeah. I was supposed to sleep after the last post but somehow I forgot...

Here are pictures of the machine before and after I did my first cleaning of the outside. The before picture shows the oxidation on the chrome and the burn in on the monitor.

Good price and a good find. I know you will enjoy it.

As far as the Dual Power, this is what I do. This was copied from another user on the forum.

"Also whenever I use the EPROM burner for the first burn, I always read a chip that I have that is blown (it's stuck in all zeros) and monitor the red led next to the printer port.  When reading, it should not ever blink red.  If it does, I reread the chip until it goes through a complete cycle without blinking red.  Then I program and/or read chips.  I've killed a few EPROMS before I noticed this behaviors.  The blinking red led doesn't always happen in the first read, but I now do it as part of my work flow"

Thanks Ron  :89- :71-

RickHunter figured that one out, and I do use that technique, but I still don't trust the thing. I only use it sparingly and grudgingly, and that's not why I bought a burner. I'd rather have a reliable tool that I will pick up in a heartbeat and use. I've still never finished backing up all of my chips because of this issue, so the GQ-4X is looking tempting at only $120. Finding a good burner with good software at a good price was the only reason that I didn't replace the dual power a year ago.

Hee hee, it's fun bringing home a new toy! The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to enable the progressives. I enabled several of my games for progressive jackpots (that screen works), but when I go into any of the others, I get a message that Progressive changes are disabled. More reading to do... :79-

Well, the son got $300 from me, but the father gave me $50 for saving him a haul to Vegas to get his machines fixed. Now the :56- fun begins. :79-

I'm going to get some prices to see what's worth replacing and what isn't. I need a coin tray to replace the plate that's there now, because the machine paid into a bowl in the stand, and I couldn't fit the stand in my car.  :8- :8- :37-  It came free with the machine, but there was no way to bring it home. Ideally, I'd like a new door (rust issues) -- maybe one with a double bet deck??, a new monitor -- either same or LCD :91-, and a new MPU board (some small issues there). New games shouldn't be a problem. :97- :97-

Oh, btw, I've discovered the joy of having a multi-denom machine with a nickel hopper and coin value.  :5- :25-

I ended up setting the jackpot lockup to 24,000 ($1,200), the credit limit to 100,000 ($2,000), and the hopper limit to 100 ($5) :72- :72- :72-
The Gamemaker isn't sophisticated enough to have different lockup limits at different denominations.

<ADD> The mechanical counters get a real workout when I play dollar or five dollar games. At $25 a play that's 500 mechanical coins in every hand. The counter never stops.

At $5 x 10 in blackjack, or $5 x 5 in VP, the $400 I put into the dbv went really fast. Glad I have the key!

Good to hear you got it Stat, I'll check my coin tray when I get home, I seem to think that one from a S5500 will fit/is the same, which if it does, should be easy and cheap to find.

Thanks,

Tell me that's not a plant rack or lamp table that's sitting on...is it?   :103-   :104-

Worse. It's one of my dining room chairs, and with about 1 inch of magazines under the front so that it tilts backwards slightly to stabilize it.  :58- ...I know :125- :125-  It's all I had available; I didn't want to spend the next several days sitting on the floor. :5-

PS: I weigh more than the machine so I'm not worried about that aspect of things. These are sturdy solid wood chairs.

<ADD> Hmmm, it's been over 20 minutes since I stopped playing the machine, and the coin in counter is still ticking... Hey, I can take it if the counter can. (it can -- they go to 10 million and probably have already cycled several times.

<ADD2> Now it's been an hour and the coin-in counter is STILL COUNTING. Dayum!  It's counting 400/min (slow) so that's 24,000 ($1,200) and still counting. Makes sense.

Glad to hear the trip was worth it. I'm sure all the Gamemaker folks let you know it was a deal as long as there wasn't anything major wrong. Again, I do not think you will regret it.

Thanks Dan.

I'm sure that I won't regret it. I've already got new games on the way and I'm setting up some progressive amounts, thanks to Ricker's help. :3- :3-  I know that I'll have to re-enter them if I change games, but it's fun to set up. It was nice to see that I could test the dbv from the menus without having to rack up credits and remove the bills O & O. I was able to test all of my bills in all 4 directions very quickly. And I'm loving all of the extended statistical information in the accounting menus. :89-

It's actually readable in table format and everything. Of course, life wouldn't be worth living if I couldn't wade through all of the cryptic menus of the reel slots. :97- :97-
All of the figures would still need to be written down and copied to a database or spreadsheet for tracking, unless you want to tackle the communications protocol. The machines has specific commands in the menus to transmit its data.

Stat I have some extra Bally 5500 coin trays. Drop by the house and it's yours. There is allso a couple of pretty good size Wells-Gardner monitors out in the storage trailer. Your welcome to one of them if it fits your machine.  Some of the parts I bought in Tucson last year, what thay fit I have no idea.  When I get back from the NASCAR race tomorrow. I'll get you the part numbers if you want them.  Buzz

Thanks Buzz.   :88-

Unfortunately, the Gamemaker is smaller than the ProSlot, so the coin tray would be too wide. The monitor is a 13 inch touch screen. I'd have to read the manual to find out what brand/model it uses, or someone might post. Give me a call when you have a chance anyway. I have something for you as well.

I have had a few varieties of gamemakers, small(intermediate) cabinets, proslot S5500 style cabinets, large(new style) cabinets.  My current machine is the S5500 style, that's where I must have been thinking the coin tray might work, didn't mean to mislead.

They look good. The 5500 cabinet style is a good fit. :71-

The second picture looks like a V7200 if I have processed all of this new information correctly, and as I understand it, the only difference is the placement of the dbv. So my question is, why did they need a new MPU board for the change? Are there any other differences between the V7000 MPU and the V7200 MPU?

btw, you might as well delete the 0k files that wouldn't upload. :79-

Yes the second is a V7200, with a WBA13 and a ticket printer.  The boards are the same (V7000, V7200).  The V8000(Gamemagic) board is different.

Thanks,
Wayne

So am I correct in my understanding that if I want extra boards for quick swapping, I can buy either board and not worry about it?

From what I've read, the v8000 boards will work in my machine as well, and are less expensive. If I got a v8000 and the extra sound card, would I need anything else to run a Game Magic theme like 99 Bottles?

Stat   I take a full size tray and shorten it  with a chop saw to fit a 5500 tournament machine. drill a couple of holes and thay fit fine. but you can see the two screws and nuts on one end. your choice  Buzz

Stat, the V8000 boards will work in your machine but does not support the generic sound. Although I don't have one, I believe the Gamemagic uses a CD for game and sounds, so there is obviously some other hardware needed. Also the Gamemagic uses an elongated monitor similiar to the Odyssey. The deluxe sound card will only work with the dedicated games like Boxcar Bonus, Platypus, etc.

What he said ^^^^^^^

Also, when I had my gamamaker I had 4 boards with trays all loaded up with different games on them.  The gamemaker is one of the easier machines to swap games in and out of.  Just swap them out and turn the machine on.

Thanks everyone. :131- :3-

If the v8000 used an elongated monitor, then my screen graphics would probably look awful, even if I did add the hardware. I think I'll table that for now.

So if I want to make backups of my chips for safekeeping, how fast does the EPROM need to be? (What's the slowest speed I can get away with?) I'd rather not have to peel the stickers off of my chips to find out.

With all these video machines you are safe with 120ns chips.  I wonder if any of our counter silencers work on the gamemaker, or maybe you can just disconnect them?  That is if course if you dislike the ticking sound.

 :72- :72- :72-

I've been playing mostly $1 and $5 games and I enabled double up on all games and a progressive on a few, so I'm playing from $5 to $100 per game and more -- Triple Trouble Poker is set up at 20 coins and BJ takes 10, and double up wagers count as coins in. The counter is slow (6.67/sec or 400/min = $20/min) so it ends up running for one to four hours after I stop playing. :5- :25-

I was looking closely at the burn in and I can see a 5c burn in the lowest right corner, so this machine spent most of its life as a single denomination machine. The 22 mains in there now must be a fairly recent addition.

<ADD> Regarding the 120ns chips, that's about what I expected. It looks like I'll have to go shopping before I can do anything with the machine, as the 512's I have are 200ns and only good for the 10Mhz S+ boards.

The SST 27SF512's from mouser are 1.45 or less in depending on quantity.
They will work great, and if you have a S+ and use a  16Mhz board, they do decrease the speaker noise form the 16Mhz boards.

Nope.

Here they are.  There's a note that they will no longer carry them; however, they do have 14,000+ as of this writing.  Get yourself 100 of them @ 1.16.  They are great, easily erased (no more UV Baking) and they are fast 70ns and you can use them for your S+.

Thanks Rick.  :3-

It looks like I'll either need to buy 100-1Mb chip or 100-2Mb chips, since the Gamemaker uses both 512k and 1M equally, and occasionally requires 2Mb. The price differences for lower quantities are big enough that it doesn't make sense to buy smaller quantities of different sizes.

Post by: tacman on February 25, 2009, 10:57:51 AM
Stat, don't forget though you can burn a 512K file onto a 1 meg chip with no offset, but I do not think you can burn either onto a 2 meg eprom for the personality (game) chips. The Gamemaker uses the 2 megs for early Mains and most of the Graphics chips are 2meg.

Now I am on my wife's laptop. Shows only 442 visits......I don't know if that's good or BAD??? :25- :30-

Reading posts, somewhere between posting here (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2753.msg22212#msg22212) and posting here (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=241.msg22219#msg22219).

Don't you really want to ask me what I was doing on 4/10 at 15:56 NLG time? :128- :129-
I was at a friends after celebrating the second night of Passover (Thurs), probably looking at the Fry's circular where I found that I could bump my laptop up to 2GB of RAM (the maximum possible, unfortunately :8-) for only $30. Later that evening I was at Fry's buying memory. Too bad they don't sell long-term human memory engrams; I need some.

My Bonus Sizzling Sevens kit arrived tonight. :92- :92-

The glass and strips are in almost perfect shape, except that there's a small chip in the lower left corner of the award glass :8- :8-  Frank packed the glass for bear (wrapped in cardboard and then in bubble wrap and then in peanuts in a strong box) and he honestly isn't sure if it was chipped before it went out but is fairly certain that is wasn't. The good news is that it is only slightly visible when installed. What I do know is that the damned FedUp guys must of read the "GLASS -- HANDLE WITH CARE" sticker on the box and decided that it needed some extra kicking and slamming around. They actually mistreated the box so badly that they put a hole in the side of it. :37- :37- :37-

I'm happy as a clam to have the complete kit, and the glass is in such great shape and the kit so hard to find that I don't care. Here is a picture of a 350 coin bonus hit.

This kit is really COOL. :133- :43- :114-

Same here have a 1000 mp and a 756 pro sitting collecting dust not to mention the amp
with a crank up tower in the yard..the wife really loves that.
I must say that the net has taken alot away from the ham hobby
plus the fact how easy it is to get a ticket now just not the same and the solar cycle being dead
hey I'm rambling on anyway nice to see some fellow hams.

I have to agree that the current licensing model is too easy; I'd like to see that change, but I have to wonder if the big three rig manufacturers haven't put pressure on the FCC in that regard so that they could sell more rigs over the years. :58-  It's the wording in Sec. 97.523 that requires the ARRL to publish all of the questions.

I actually passed my 20wpm code test on the day that I got my General, although I didn't pass the advanced written test because I had only prepared for the general at the time. I didn't have to take the code test when I finally got my extra, but I at least feel that I did accomplish that task, even if it was years before. I also refused to use study books that essentially gave you the answers because I wanted to learn the material, not just memorize some test. At least they have over 800 answers in the extra pool, but it's still cheating in my book.

My first rig was a Henry Tempo One (Yaesu FT-200 from the early 1970s) that I used for years on HF on both CW and SSB, but like you, I hadn't been active in recent years because of the solar cycle and because other hobbies have taken precedence. It's interesting that you have a 756pro. I have had my eye on the 756proIII, especially since the 7700 and 7600 are out and lots of proIII's will be hitting the used market as the keep up with the Jones' types trade up.

I understand your position regarding the net and ham radio, but I still find the hobby worthwhile. I enjoy QRP. I worked a station several hundred miles away using CW on 40 meters and got a 599 signal using a crystal transmitter powered by a 9v battery! (Of course, it was hooked up to a tuned dipole over 50ft in the air.) I had a lot of fun with that little xmitter. There are still things that I haven't done. I would like to work a station via moon bounce someday, and I'm interested in trying some QRP DX spread spectrum QSOs. There is also the time honored tradition of being prepared to help in emergencies. Don't forget that when Katrina hit it was hams who were the first to communicate in and out of the affected areas, not the friggin' government.

I also hold advance class my first rig was a Yaesu 101 e then a bunch of Kenwoods list goes on
cw was never a problem for me as I learned to play guitar by ear at first so by the time I got into ham radio cw came very  easy
the 756pro is a great rig what sold me was the band scope I never did by another rig after that
never was into QRP just dxing and some cw work then when the internet came along I lost interest but I did try packet and then later
echolink which was cool but I also thought it was a blow to ham radio at the same time if I do get on anymore its 75 meters
I love to tinker so it was only natural when I first stepped into the casino I would own a slot now 8 of them
and the wife is sick of my saying last 1 I promise  :89-

It looks like we have the makings of another NLG gathering in the NY area!
Bunker should be within travel distance of there as well. :71- :71-

...cw was never a problem for me as I learned to play guitar by ear at first so by the time I got into ham radio cw came very  easy...

:72- :72- :72-  I have played piano since the age of five and also had little trouble with the code. I ended up staying a Novice longer than I should have because I was happy working only CW for several years. I could send and receive over 25-30WPM using a straight key (piano again). I had an old military key. It was adjusted so tight that one could almost trigger it by blowing on it (I'm serious). I used multiple fingers to touch-tap.

...just dxing and some cw work then when the internet came along I lost interest but I did try packet and then later echolink which was cool but I also thought it was a blow to ham radio at the same time ...

I wasn't too happy to see digital modes when packet first came out, although having a BBS on the air had its appeal, and at the time, the public internet was years away. I still think that the old standbys of HF SSB and CW hold the most interest both local and DX.

Ok guys, Guess I'll join the club of Yaesu old timers with my ... FLDX400 tube xmitter and my  FRDX400 tube receiver  :71-

I also hold a "advanced" ticket even though you can't get one any more, (they can't take mine away) they now jump straight from General to Extra

I loved my FT-200, tubes and all.  :89-  I always got great signal reports. It had a nice clean signal and a pretty sensitive receiver, although it had no real filtering by today's DSP standards. The controls were very simple, but different. Who tunes for max grid current and max plate dip anymore on these new rigs? :25-

...
I love to tinker so it was only natural when I first stepped into the casino I would own a slot now 8 of them

So much to catch up on!!!!!!!!!!

I know it is late, but I guess that congrats are in order.... You have finally joined the video generation! And I read further to find the Bonus Siz 7's Kit aquisition as well!!! The slot gods are shining down on you!  :8- :37- :8-  I'm jealous, no new toys for a really really long time for me! (There is always the BBQ trip to find something!)

No Royals yet. I've done much better on the slots and keno. I've hit 16,000 coin+ wins on Island Slots and have hit 6 of 6 and some other good hits in keno. The best poker hand so far has been 4 aces in bonus poker. I wish that the GM had a version of Triple-Double Bonus poker :8-  but it's too old a platform for that game. The machine is in the dining room next to the Pachislo and is sitting on one of my dining room chairs -- it's actually a pretty good stand. :96-

It does appear that there will be some good purchasing opportunities at the BBQ, so you might want to choose your transportation accordingly! :79-  :89- :71-

Buzz talking to a69mopar and his wife outside of the new shop in Bullhead City, AZ. I sort of promised that I wouldn't post any pictures of Mrs. Mopar, but it's the only one that I have with Buzz and Wayne together. :88-  Hey Buzz, there's the Triple Dollar with Mystery Reel Action that we were talking about last night.  :79-

Quack Shots is really cool and now on my wish list.
Lucky Hearts wasn't nearly as interesting.

Surf City is also a good game. a69mopar hit a decent bonus round while we were sitting there. Of course, this was after he called the slot attendant over and walked her step by step through the process of turning on/up the sound in the S2000 settings! Hey, you know how it is with NLG members, you can dress us up, but you can't take us anywhere!  :30- :208- :208- :208-
We did end up having a nice conversation with a couple of their employees.. :79-

Mrs. Mopar played the King Cash game, and while she did hit the bonus round for some coin, I didn't find it as interesting as Surf City or Quack Shot.

Here is the UNIVERSAL 4-Reel coin-only dollar progressive at Fitzgerald's on Fremont Street in Vegas. I actually had to go to the cage to purchase silver to play it!
I bought $30 and was looking forward to losing it as I walked excitedly back to the machine, but after one pull I found that they had turned the sound OFF! :8- :8-   I was SO disappointed! :37- :37- :37- Well, at least it saved me $27 dollars (or did it cost them $27 because they had the sound turned off? :103-)

<PS> I took these pictures before I played the machine. The 50 code suggests that it had been reset since the last time someone had actually played it. I wonder how long it had been sitting there, lonely? :128- :96-

One more of the Uni. Interestingly, they added a player tracking unit to the machine, but not a bill validator. You can see the player tracking card reader on the lower-right side of the machine, down on the slot stand.

a69mopar playing an Anchor Games Flip Flop at 25 nickels a spin. This was also at Fitzgerald's in downtown Vegas.

<PS> I took these pictures before I played the machine. The 50 code suggests that it had been reset since the last time someone had actually played it. I wonder how long it had been sitting there, lonely? :128- :96-

The only sound from that machine would be coin-in and wins. No spin sound.
The board in that machine does not support a BV.
Error 50 code just means that the door was openned. Most likely a coin jam.
Thanks for posting. A real old one.

RIGHT! Those old sounds that I LOVE so much! It also should have reel stop sounds, as I recall. That's why I expected to lose all of my money. I might have ended up playing one coin at a time so that I could play enough to get a winning combination. :96-

That's right, should be reel stop sounds. Guess I better drop off a sound card on my next visit.  :72-
If that game is the 64 stop model, which I think it is, it was designed for a 100,000 coin jackpot, not 65,000 as they have.
Chances to win the jackpot with the 64 stop is 1 in 16,777,216.  :97-
It could be a 32 stop. (I doubt it) Chances for jackpot 1 in 1,048,576.
Game #8565

:208- :208- :208- I knew that the odds were against me, especially on those 4-reelers. That's why I was planning on playing a bit to get a win. Even a cherry or mixed bars can be difficult to hit on these. However, once I dropped in the first coin and failed to hear anything, I knew that I wasn't going to be a happy camper and when there were no stop sounds, it spoke volumes about my state of affairs: I knew that I wasn't going to be having any -- affairs, that is, nor volume. :5-  I decided to cash in my coin and pine for the Fjords elsewhere. I couldn't find any parrot slots so I settled for the Flip Flop frog game that Wayne was playing.

:128- Hmm, I managed to steal from Jimmy Stewart in Harvey and from Monty Python at the same time. :200-

Okay, this is too weird.

I just finished watching all six Star Wars movies in order and am currently watching one of the bonus features about the making of Star Wars. I've never clicked on Joey's new link on the main page to the Rant.fm radio station.

So about five minutes ago I decided to click on the link to see what it was about, and out of all of the thousands of songs they could have been playing, they were JUST STARTING the theme from Star Wars (!) -- the disco version by Meco! It was as if they were waiting for me to click on the link to start THAT song.

Title: Re: StatFreak's Machine Upgrades and other Ramblings.. Neutrinos
Post by: StatFreak on September 24, 2011, 03:26:19 AM
I thought this might be of some interest to those of us with an interest in physics.

A group of physicists working in Italy on a project called OPERA, in concert with CERN, near Geneva, have clocked neutrinos traveling faster than the speed of light. They have observed more than 16,000 instances of this event in the last two years and published their findings today for the rest of the scientific community to examine. Others have also seen this phenomenon in the past but did not have sufficiently accurate measurements to take the readings seriously.

If their findings can be reproduced and are finally proven correct, the implications of this discovery will turn physics on its ear and will invalidate Einstein's special theory of relativity.

There is some evidence that they may be mistaken. Others around the world will now work to try to either reproduce or refute OPERA's findings.

I couldn't open the paper directly in my browser (others might have better luck), but it will save to disc.

Title: Re: StatFreak's Machine Upgrades and other Ramblings.. - Google & Jim Henson
Post by: StatFreak on September 24, 2011, 04:51:42 AM
Here's a completely unrelated item of interest.

Today only (9/24/2011) Google has a tribute on their main search page celebrating Jim Henson's 75th birthday.

I think it's cute and I got a good laugh out of it. :200- :71- :71-

You'll need to click on each button and move the mouse around to see how it works. Also try clicking a second time on a button and holding the mouse down. There are two cool animations that will only play once per page load. You have to find those for yourself.

The shame of it is that it will only be up for 24 hours. :8- :8- :37-  I've tried to save the app but I can't. If anyone can figure out how to save it in a working state, please let me know before it's gone.

BTW, today's Google image is animated and pretty cute. It's a tribute to Art Clokey's 90th birthday. He created Gumby and Pokey.

Well, November, 11th 2011 is almost over and no one has posted anything about the date and its relevance to gamblers, or to honor our veterans.

So for those looking for some luck in the time left,   happy 11/11/11

and to all of our veterans,

usa_flag   THANK YOU for serving and protecting our country!  :244- :244- :137- :137-
