CFH,
I don't have the glass you need, but may I ask you?
What kind of a scanner do you scan large pieces like that with?
perhaps make and model?

scanningis tricky for a couple reasons.
first the size of the glass means you have to
"stitch" the scanned pieces together. that's no big
deal though if you're handy with photoshop.

but the big problem is that the bed on most
scanners are not flat. that is, there's a raised
edge around the glass bed. so when you put your
oversized item on the scanner bed, it will not
lay flat because it overlaps onto this raised edge.
so the scan looks like hell and is distorted.

to solve this problem i use an HP 4600 (or HP4670,
which is a newer version). This solves the edge
problem. But you get a reflective glare because the
scanner is scanning thru a 3/16" piece of glass.
it's not bad, but it's not perfect. And i can usually
get the glare out or minimized using photoshop.
you have to increase the contrast (which brightens
the colors and minimizes glare) to do this. Also
the scan is at 300 dpi.

The funny thing is I done just about everything you've mentioned here.
I have also had problems with the raised printer edges.
I've actually taken off the raised border and tried that but it's cumbersome and time consuming.
I know what you mean about the scanner going through the glass and leaving all the white-ish pixels/dots
which needs to be filed with more color to make a better picture.
I seen larger scanners but they're too expensive for what I want to do.
I have a friend that has a custom printing shop and I'm going to go see him and see what he has...
