HI
Well if I cant look at a manual maybe someone on this thread has seen this problem before and can help me out. I have 5 vlc 8724 games and 3 of the 5 I believe shouldnt be that hard to get working but other two need clear chips. well now only one cuz i started dismantling one of them that irratated me earlier. So it is now a parts machine. Anyhow the two I am working on at present both have identical problem. when I put a coin in i recieve a tilt message.
I tried putting in paper money but it only kicks it back out. Only have on validator so I move it back in forth. I took and cleaned  it thouroughly both head and transport but no difference. havent tried too many  different bills yet will tomorrow but coin tilt problem sounds like a config problem. I went into menu and enabled both coin and bill devices, designated to take all type of bills. verified configuration was recognized. and ran diag tests. Bill pulls into cash box and coins detected both one time and when set to take multiple coins. no problem. Go back to game and get tilt code. Is there maybe something I am not entering elsewhere or what. Borrowing another coin comparator tomorrow to see if that helps but if any one can put in what they know or think needs done i would appreciate it. Otherwise I will  probably just keep banging my head slowly till it works.  Duh!

I know  nothing of these machines, however many of the common ones that I am familar with appear to use similar hardware to each other and the number of validation techniques is also limited.

For your coin-in error it might help if ou could post a picture of the inside of your door.

A coin in tilt on a IGT is most commonly caused by the coin making it past the compartior test but then failing when it reaches the optics.

The exact and complete error message would be very helpful.  I do have a manual for these things, but it's not in electronic form, and it's roughly 100 double-sided pages -- way too much to scan in myself.  If you can post the exact error message you're getting I can look it up and tell you what the manual says.

I do not know if I can be more clearer based on the little I know. I put in a coin and it immediately opens a screen (see pics) and it says " Welcome to VLC touchscreen Gaming" The date is in lower middle and up right hand side of screen it simply says "tilt" From there I can not get it to do anything except open door reset and machine returns to either admin mode or demo mode right where I started. anyway let me kmow  if there is something I can can do from here but cant seem to figure out. Here are some screen pics with the current config settings are. pics spread over a couple of replies.  this is model 8724

I do not know if I can give more clarifying or precise info on this tilt message. So maybe it would be better to show the screen in a pic I took. With machine currently running in demo mode I cash out any free credits and at bottom of same screen when I go up to machine it says input coins or somethng like that.
So I drop a coin in and it passes through the comparator and as soon as it goes through optical reader, the machine switches to the screen with the word tilt on it. As you can see it doesnt get very descriptive on it. But once the tilt occurrs I cant or dont know how to get out of that screen other than to do a reset key or power cycle which does clear it but puts me right back into the demo mode again. I cleaned the optics section out really nice and no difference.
Maybe the optics are just bad or board is bad in both of them and its just coincedence. That is where I am at with this. Also are some pics of the config settings for coin and bills. maybe something set to wrong setting. THANKS

It might be symantics (mincing words) but what you have is a coin comparitor. I am not sure if Electronic Mech means the same thing.
Generally Mech means mechanical. You might see if there is an option to change this.
Secondly you might want to replace the sample coin with a new one.
Directly below the coin comparitor is what appears to be a set of optics you might try cleaning these.

Use compressed air or a swap with some water - DO NOT use any alcohol or windex type cleaners as they are meant for glass and will damage the plastic optics.

their is another selection for coin and that was what i had it set for prior to my last configuration changes. It didnt seem to make any difference, so i didnt change it back. i also have tried 3 different comaparitors and several different coins. the comparator seems to be working fine. as it leaves the comparator to the optics is where immediately tilt. I previously took  apart the coin path area and cleaned the optics and plastic window on both sides. No difference afterward. So it sounds like so far I have tried the most likely things to correct problem. I guess I will find another set of optic sensors and try that if not then bang my head all the way replacing everything in that area. And then one day i will either pass from this life or I will get this vlc to work before that time comes. thanks for the help so far

CC-16's are the right size of comparitor but the various letters at the end do make a difference.
different letters mean different voltages and either INHIBIT or NON-INHIBIT

Inhibit means that the machine is prevented from taking coins unless the machine is ready for play and it controls a solinoid to make it reject coins.

I am not sure what is the right comparitor for your machine.

A tilt generaly means it has gotten past the coin comparitor but has failed at the optics....at least that is how my older IGT S+ works.

Hold the phone.  You're putting a coin in when it's in demo mode?  That's probably the issue.  The game is not supposed to accept coins or bills in demo mode.  It's probably "tilt"ing because it senses that a coin was accepted when it shouldn't have been.  It's not urgent, but you may want to check the divertor that's supposed to reject coins before they get to the optics to see if that's working.

In order for your machine to accept coins or bills, it must be "enrolled".  I'm fairly sure that once you enroll the machine, you can not get it back to the demo mode without a clear chip.

Thank you for the pictures -- I've never actually seen that "tilt" message before -- I was assuming that you were getting an error message and not just simply the word "tilt."

It has been a few days till i got back to my 8724 ringem up vlc video machine. To take it out of demo mode I turned the machine key and found the enroll button in red and pressed it. enrolled the machine. Now when powered up the machine display shows - 'TEMPORARILY OUT OF ORDER', SHOWS THE NUMBER '52' below the out of order message. Below the number 52 it says 'terminal awaiting setup' then below that '$0.00'. And if I go into any setup routines I now do not have the rights or privileges. Did I enroll it wrong or forget to do something or what do I need to do to remove this message and get it to show the games menu? Can someone also send me a section from the manual on enrolling if possible. I have another game that needs enrolled but now am hesitant to do so cuz of what happened on this machine. without a manual these machines are one surprise after another

Even with the manual they're one headache after the other.

When you enrolled the machine, did you follow all the steps on the screen to configure the machine (coin type, hopper size, denomination, etc.)?  I think you're now stuck without a clear chip, but let me check my manual tonight to see what I can find.

Something to try on for size would be to open ALL of the doors (top, belly, and pull out the CPU drawer halfway) and then try accessing the setup screens.  Sometimes the "not authorized" screens will not block your path if you have all of the access doors open.

i followed enrolling screens as best I understood, the only thing i did that I wasnt sure about was the screen showed some of the settings for 5 cents for everything I changed the settiings to 5/25 cents to match the coin entry and labels on the machine. It said something about 25 cent credits and 5 cent hopper pays or something along those lines. It accepted the changes, I believe that was the only changes made. The rest of the settings I left the same because they were the correct configuration setting. If you could if possible maybe copy the section on setting up and enrolling a machine I would appreciate it cuz I have one more machine that is in demo/test mode that needs enrolled. Hesitant to do it until I know I am doing it right or maybe read the proper steps to enrolling a machine from manual. Maybe I left a step out, I dont have a clue without something to reference. like walkiing in the dark knowing yet not knowing exactly when i am going to hit or walk into something. I did try opening all the doors and drawers to see if it would let me do anything and nothing different, i can look at different menu items and change some but others areas it would not let me as if i no longer had the rights to enter those areas where now I can only do attendent duties. Your help is appreciated

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I have uploaded four files to the Submit New Files section.  They are all .pdf documents that start with "VLC".  (Edit: Direct links below.)

There is no error 52 in my manual.   Duh!  See the "VLC_No_Error_52.pdf" file.

I did copy the information about enrolling -- it's called "VLC_Enroll.pdf".  I also found a section I hadn't read before about passwords.  I've uploaded that as well ("VLC_Passwords.pdf"), and I'd suggest establishing passwords (if it'll let you) BEFORE enrolling the machine.  I don't know how one enters a password to access things, but there is a part that notes that if passwords aren't established then functions may be disabled (although it also implies that door access would take the place of password entry).  It's one of those things where it couldn't hurt to try doing it.

I'm telling you, this manual really isn't that good -- it points in a general direction and has the user figure stuff out for themselves in a number of places.  Nowhere does it even address the full-screen "not authorized" messages.

Also uploaded is the "Mini RAMset" procedure ("VLC_Mini_Ramset.pdf").  You may want to try this on your machine that's showing the error 52.  It probably won't help, but it won't hurt, either.  Beyond that, I think you're going to be stuck needing an impossible to find clear chip for that machine.

http://www.newlifegames.net/uploads/up/VLC_No_Error_52.pdf
http://www.newlifegames.net/uploads/up/VLC_Passwords.pdf
http://www.newlifegames.net/uploads/up/VLC_Enroll.pdf
http://www.newlifegames.net/uploads/up/VLC_Mini_Ramset.pdf

Edited to add:

Before attempting to enroll the second machine, you may wish to visit the Machine Configuration > Game Configuration screen (if available) and choose the game(s) you want the machine to display after enrollment.  My VLC is a "Winning Touch" multi-game with multiple game options (although they all seemed to go to a default setting after I enrolled) - I have zero experience with a single-game setup like yours.

Also, I found a section about the "TILT" message you were getting, and my suspicion was right.  You were getting the TILT message due to a coin being accepted in the demo mode.  In a nutshell, the section says that "Inappropriate coin-in errors occur when the gaming device detects that a coin was accepted while the....coin acceptor should [have been] disabled."  ...and goes on to give examples including demo mode, tournament mode, a door is open, or the previous game was a jackpot of $1200+.

thanks for the added info and i understand what you mean about the manual. it seems the people who write it use words to purposely stay away from what they themselves know nothing about. thanks also for the downloads and i will try these out later today. also these are all multi game units i only gave the belly glass name that was on it.
