Title: Animation files for an 160x64 pixel mikohn-sign
Post by: miles on September 06, 2011, 03:53:17 PM
Hi,

I have an old "Rainbow" sign from Mikohn (160x64 Pixel)
On this sign,i have animations and progressiv values shown.
Now i want to change the animation.
This animation-files are together with the .pdf and .bat-files on a Compact flash card inside the sign.
This animation files are .ani files
.Ani files are normally animated cursor files, but i can't open this files with such a program.

Did anybody know a program to open and change or create these .ani-files for the mikohn sign :99-

kind regrads

Mikohn used propriatary formats for their animations.  They also had multiple controllers for their signs, so for starters we'll need to know what kind of controller is driving your sign.  If you don't know, a clear picture of the main board that the sign plugs into (typically with a ribbon cable) will be very helpful.

Additionally, I'm familiar with Mikohn animation files that are .mik file format -- not so much with .ani.

Wow, that is one big sign.

Unfortunately, I've never seen that board before and I double-checked -- all the animations I've worked with in the past are .mik format, not .ani .   :60-

Hopefully someone else will see your post here and be able to offer you some help.

Jay has a lot of Mikohn knowledge. You might want to send him a pm.

Pardon me, but I can't stop drooling  :184- over my keyboard upon
seeing that Mikohn set-up! WOW!

I highly recommend that you save any animations that are stored
before trying to change anything on that puppy!

Is there anyone out there who knows about the Mikohn Rainbow meter?
There is one nice casino sign in an auction tomorrow that has a big rainbow meter. It has the driver board and power supplies but I'm assuming there is a CON needed to program and run the progressive on this meter.
I wouldn't want a nice big meter that says LINK DOWN or ERROR.
Did a little searching and it appears the rainbow came out in about 2001.

Not sure about the rainbow meters, but the Elite models after PGI took over the Mikohn sign portion of the business used 2 proprietary programs for conversion and transfer to the meter. These would be Point and Shoot and Build LFS, near to imposible to obtain.
