Hi,

I've got a potential trip in the planning stage to Vegas for my birthday next year.

Does anyone know of an airline that does daily flights between Vegas and Mount Rushmore or any other way to get there and back in 1 or two days (other than Time Travel!)?

I've had a quick look on the internet and found an airline flying from Vegas to some small airport nearby but they fly out Mondays and come back Friday.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Paul

The closest airport is Rapid City, SD, about 35 miles from Mount Rushmore.  There are no non-stop flights so you have to make a connection.  You can do it in a day but you won't have but a few hours to do in once you get to Rapid City.  Go up on Expedia or Orbitz and do flight search from Las Vegas to Rapid City to see what is available.

Yes, if you want to see Mount Rushmore as it is today, better go quickly before Mr. Obama decides to put his effigy on it as well.  arrow arrow arrow

Rapid City is the area's Regional Airport. yes It is however, a good 15+ miles out of town in the opposite direction.
They're basically connection flights and don't accommodate large commercial jetliners. I would expect spending a day
to cruise Hwy 16 and all there is to see in the Black Hills ie Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Hill City, etc. Time will easily
escape you as you peruse the area.
My wife is from Rapid City and I would say any time spent in the Black Hills is time well spent. I've been working for
some time to get back into the area. ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

Thanks for the tips guys, I obviously have to do some more reading up on Deadwood and Sturgus!

The last time we were on that side of the States we did the usual LA, SF, Yosemite, Arches, VEGAS, Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon (saw President Clinton there!) Four Corners (250 miles drive for that!), but we couldn't get to Rushmore and would have loved to see it.

This time I really really want to go back to Vegas as well, perhaps a trip to the 'Promised Land' AKA NLG headquarters but I think given TJKellers comments and after a bit more reading we might try to fly in further across, get a car and drive around the Black Hills area for a few days instead.

Thanks again everyone.
