Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on January 09, 2012, 01:09:57 PM
I have a monitor that has a BROKEN pot rated at 1K  -  used for the Brite Control  - can i substitute a 10K?

your biggest concern would be the rated wattage of the pot.  an under rated wattage could burn it out.

the easiest way to explain how the pot works:  1K pot would read 1000 ohms across two of the legs, on the wiper leg the resistance will vary according to the setting. set mid range wiper arm should have approx. 500 ohms, etc.

the 10 K or 10,000   mid would be 5000, so you would have a very limited range of adjustment. I would determine the two points on the wiper arm and mark them.  point one would be 1000 ohms,  point two 500 ohms.    set it at 500 ohms   and see what happens.

thank you very much -  I always ASK first - I don't like the smell of smoke.
