Not sure on exact part numbers for connectors.

The 2 pin power connector is standard 0.156" Molex inline.

The Header is standard 10 pin (2X5)  IDC type header 0.100" centers (neumerous makers).

The power going to a 12 cell Mini Chameleon is +5VDC regulated while the power going to the CHAMII+ control PCB is +10.5VDC but 12VDC works just fine since it is regulated down to 5 on the CHAMII+ board.

All you need to do is configure the harness to connect your machines, no hardware required. Common between machines are joined together, serial return is dito and the coin in signal is pinned out from each machine accordingly.

I don't have a display yet.  I wanted to obtain an external display.
When you say "external" display are you talking one of the Large Overhead Displays (often refered to as a meter)?

If so, they come in a bunch of different arrangements.  Basically, they are classified as 1 X 2, 2 X 3, 3 X 5 etc.  This refers to the number of LARGE panels used to make up the display.  There is currently a seller on Ebay which has the individual Panels. Minimum, you would need 2 panels to make a 1 X 2.  That would be one panel high and two panels wide (1X2).  You would then also require a power supply, a Controller board and all the necessary wiring. The CON1 is not the display controller but rather the progressive data controller.  The CON1 gathers the coin data and sends this out to the IN MACHINE DISPLAYS and the OVERHEAD DISPLAYS.

The CON2 is basically the same as the CON1 but offers more features and has a more contemporary way of linking more units.  However, according to Joey, the CON2 is not compatible with the older hardware (LED5, CHAMII, Old Sign 1X2).  And therefore, the Newer CHAMII+ only speaks CON2 and not the older CON1.

The Overhead sign parts are usually contained in a gold display box which is then part of a larger sign (Those pretty Neon and Chase Light Displays above a bank of machines).  Of course, these can be quite costly unless they are game specific and the game is no longer on Casino's floors. Of course, buying all the individual parts, you might be able to put together a Generic Overhead and then build an enclosure for it.

IF you are talking the smaller displays which are normally found in a Machine itself behind the top pay glass they are usually 2" by 15" and of course, you could also mount those in a display box.  There are two basic versions of these.  One is often refered to as an LED5 which has intergrated drivers on the controller board for the LED display.  These LED5 displays are often smaller than the standard progressive window you find in most S+ Progressive top Pay Glasses.  The other type is from the CHAMII line (Chameleon 2).  There are CHAMII (no Plus sign) which as far as I know, are link only (not stand alone).  These require data sent to them by a link controller like the CON1.  There are also CHAMII+ which can be both link and stand alone.  Stand alone meaning it can sit in an individual machine and drive an LED display and tally coins in and progressive amounts in that machine.  The CHAMII line uses 12 cell mini chameleon displays which had an add on piggy back driver board as part of thier display board.

There is also a CHAMIII which intergrates a lot of these various boards and plugs directly on the back of the 12 Cell Mini Chameleon.  These are rather new and still used by the casinos so it is unlikely you will find these on the resale market.

I am not aware of what the actual board inside an Overhead sign are called.  But there is also a board made after the CHAMII+ which is called a SUPREME controller.  It can apparently be used for both an In machine Link or stand alone as well as controlling an overhead display.

Rumor has it, the Ebay seller with the Panels also has the various other MIKOHN components.  You might want to send him an email.  He also appears to be very knowlegable on the product.

One NLG member was trying to put togther a deal including everything necessary to link 3 S+ machines.  The cost for the Equipment was in Excess of $1000 with only a generic 1X2 sign.

Good Luck on your search and keep us posted if you get one up and running.  It seems that Progressive displays is a very desirable step after someone becomes and owner of a few slot machines.

I don't really want a MEGA display sign, there is a picture in the auction of a sign on a golden (appears metallic) box.  Jay also has a picture of his setup in the restoration thread where he set up a display in the tracking bracket.  The big sign that says Megabucks (on top of the tron game) is in the lines of what I'd like to have, is that a 1x2?  I have a couple of glasses with the progressive windows 2x15, but If I use those, then whenever I would make a game change, I'd loose my display, that's why I want to go external.  I've written the guy in e-bay (some guy in LV that was selling the displays with the display boards I assume) to see what he says.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, Jay's Overhead is a 1X2.  Jay and Joey's photos are of the same exact hardware. The player tracking bracket is a custom modification he did on his own - Which I have to say was a great Idea!  This way, his display stays with the cabinet and he CAN change out games without them needing to be progressive glass titles.  His player tracking units are LED5's witht the smaller displays.  Keep in mind, he also had to modify the cabinet a bit to get the PCB to fit.

What you want to do is about the simplest form of Progressive.  The CON1 can connecto up to a number of machines and then drive the data to an overhead Meter.  I have to say, Jay's is the first one I have seen come up for auction on Ebay and it still took the handy work and resources of Joey to get it all together for him.  The Guy in Vegas selling panels has already stated he does not have any "signs".

As I recall, we found a few sign sellers by doing google searches of key words like Mikohn 1X2 and such.  However, I was affraid to ask about pricing after seeing a few sites that DID list prices.

so would it be easier to obtain a 2x15 led5 and chameleon and put that in a box (as far as cost and availability is concerned)?  I"m going to google to see what I can come up with.  I'm kind of a patient guy when it comes to saving money, so if it is way out of hand, I'll just keep my eye out on e-bay for parts.

Yes, that would be a realistic route to take since you already own a CON1 now.  However, I think the 2"X15" display is actually rather rare for an LED5 setup.

Thanks to Joey, I have a number of CHAM2 boards I am going through for him.  However, I don't think we have any spare LED displays to go with them.  I also have some LED5 boards I am working on for Jay but again, we have no spare LEDs to go with them.

There was an ebay seller a while back that was selling the LED5 units.  He claimed to have 8 at the time.  But a few other NLGers have since purchased from him.  Hopefully, one of them can post some contact info if they want to "give up their source".  These were the smaller LEDs.

Just so I get my terminology correct, are the led5's the chameleons with the link chip or am I totally off.  From your post I gather that what you don't have is the physical LED board with the display driver on the back?

Also I thought that the 2x15 displays were used commonly with the chameleons for in-machine displays

It is difficult to get the terminology correct as sometimes these things are called something different than what is actually screened or printed on the PCBs.  The Chameleon name is what Mikohn calls their Tri Color LED dot Displays.  They also make some displays I think they called Proton which are only really LARGE LED digits and can display the numbers only (no dots).  I am guessing these are the much older overhead stuff.

The LED5 board uses a special LED board since some of the drivers are on the actual controller board (no piggy back board).  It is connected with a 20 pin ribbon cable, no power harness.  As far as WE know, the LED5 board can only be used in a link system.

The 2"X15" LED board is silk screened as a "CHAM2 12 CELL Mini" and can be driven by both a CHAMII and a CHAMII+ (has piggy back driver PCB).  IT is connected with a 10 pin ribbon cable and uses a 2 pin power connector to feed +5 to the display electronics. This same Display can be driven with a CHAMIII (3) in place of the piggy back driver board.  The CHAMIII does not use a ribbon cable since it is plugged directly onto the display PCB.  As far as WE know, a CHAMII can only be used in a Link System.  A CHAMII+ can be used as both Link and Stand Alone.

And yes, the 2"X15" display would normally be what is found behind a progressive window.  However, I know of two different sizes of 12 cell displays which are both used with the LED5 controller board.  We don't actually know what game(s)/Platforms were designed to use the smaller display since most of the IGT and Bally Glass has a window which measures 2 inches by 15 inches.  The LED bricks on the smaller board measures 10 1/4" by 1 1/4"

I personally don't have it straight as to whether an LED5 is actually a  CHAM1.  The controller board that Joey calls an LED5 is silk screened as follows "2 inch Chameleon Slave Rev A"  It would be assumed that the first Chameleon controller board would not be refered to as a CHAM1 until the CHAM2 came along???

so In essence what I would need is a 2"x15" display LED, and CHAMII and a power supply for the CHAMII (As I already have a Con1), plus some box to put it in.

CJ/Ninja,

I have two large manuals and I am not sure which one it is in. I think it is the Con1 manual but it might be the Chamii+ manual.
In either case one of them they have all the switch settings for each of the boards. The LED5 unit that CJ described in the earlier post matches up switch for switch with the Cham1.

To the best of "our" knowledge, no a CHAMII (CH2 not plus) cannot be anything but a link driver.  Therefore, you will need a CON1 to send the progressive data to it.

And the latest information I just learned is that the CHAMII+ cannot be used with a CON1.  It will only speak CON2.  This has not been totally verified but does come from a reliable source = Joey!.

oh well.  I got the Con1 from Joey anyway, so I'll just have to use it all the time then.  So my ChamII's with the con1 plus some creative wiring and I'm all done.  What is the difference between PSP 1.0 and PSP 2.0?

oh well.  I got the Con1 from Joey anyway, so I'll just have to use it all the time then.  So my ChamII's with the con1 plus some creative wiring and I'm all done.  What is the difference between PSP 1.0 and PSP 2.0?

Actually, the wiring is not all that "Creative".  As I understand it, there will be two wires to feed the data from the CON1 to all the in machine displays.

Then, there will be two wires to feed the coin in signal from EACH machine you want to contribute to the progressive amount back to the CON1.

So, if your CHAMII are all self contained (power supply, display etc) Then you will have two sets of two wires going from each machine back to the CON1.

Yeah, that was posted in response to a question I had regarding the RS-232 cable connection to a CHAMII+.  I ended up just jumping pins 1 and 5 on the pc side of the CHAMII+ with a little wire wrap wire and a touch of solder.  Works like a charm now.
