Hello fellas,

Curious on what buttons (brand), computer, monitor (specs) etc that you(s) would use for a custom MAME machine.

I plan on building a half cabinet that will just sit near the wall mounted tv and speakers.. (pic attached)

I was thinking about getting a kit (the DIY version) from X-arcade for the buttons etc seeing its USB and seems pretty simple. Plug and play.
http://www.xgaming.com/store/arcade-parts-and-accessories/product/two-player-build-your-own-arcade-bundle-pcb/

I have a 42" lcd tv (LG 3months old), that I plan on using as the screen.

I have a few desktop computers laying around but i'm not sure the ideal specs needed to run MAME with Hyperspin flawlessly. Do I need something newer or can my 5yr old pentium 0 run it?

Any advice or direction would be great. Yoeddy's set up caused this btw...... Silly Me!

I will be here drinking, I mean thinking about the list needed.  chug

Thanks,

I Harvey

The cabinet will be finished by tomorrow or the next. Plan on making it look like an old bar/craps table. The top will be done in a graphic that looks just like a craps table felt with the joystick, buttons etc mounted.  Just need advise on the X-arcade components. Good? Bad?

Anyone out there?, I think I heard this post echo when I asked......................................................... drinker.

Harvey,

I've started on the same project but my ADD is in overdrive and I moved to a different project for the moment.  I'm sure I will get back to it soon.  Especially when I see others talking about it.  The X-arcade controls seem to be pretty popular from what I've read.  Since I'm only interested in the older games that generally had few controls I'm opting to go with a simple layout with few buttons, joystick, trackball and eventually a spinner wired through one of the keyboard emulators.

I'll be interested to see how yours turns out. I also plan on doing a half cabinet also and hooking up to the TV.

Good Luck

Ha, I know how that goes.. I barely get finished with one project then jump into another.

I plan on setting up a 2 player with trackball. I will have a accessible pull-out keyboard with a touch-pad. I can always upgrade it later, I left enough room.

I know as much about Mame/Hyperspin as I do Fortune 1 sound, so any advice on that would be great. A friends best friends dog has the Mame/Hyperspin with like 15000+ games. Not sure if that's necessary? Can you delete games from hyperspin itself? Or does it take time to completely remove games you will never play?

Thanks,

Harvey

Here's some progress (Deuce23),

Have the cabinet almost finished.. Just need to make a fancy antique looking center piece, put some 2" old cast iron wheels on the bottom, go have my vector craps table layout printed, and install my joystick/trackball/buttons..

I have a older (2008) pc that I stripped down to be used strictly for MAME. I hope to have that up and running (flawlessly) by the end of the week. Then just wait for my buttons, joystick and trackball to arrive..... back ordered dam!t...

Gonna post this update because it turned out much to nice not to.....

I had it printed on a material similar to those thin plastic mouse pads. Durable, waterproof, sticks right on.

The picture doesn't do it much justice, looks way better in person, here it tis'

Now just waiting on my buttons. Should have them by next wk.

Thanks guys!

If anyone's up for a Paperboy high score let me know!!!!  rotflmao

Still learning the Hyperspin and in game adjustments, should have everything the way I want soon. But for now it works great other then differences in volume from Hyperspin to game.. (Is there a universal volume adjustment that controls both hyperspin and all the games?)

I should change this post to "How to build your first Mame"  applause
