I've used MAME plenty of times in an arcade setting before, and know about MameHooker and output boards like the LEDWiz or PacDrive, etc. The hardware side of things is easy.
I'm now building up a pokie-machine, and want it to look as authentic as possible. I've found the MKIV games in MAME (3 Bags Full, Black Rhino, etc.) and they run very well, which is great. What I want to do is to have the buttons on the panel light up accordingly as they should, based on what the game is doing. MameHooker should be perfect for this, but I can't get it to pick up any outputs from the Aristocrat games.

Does anyone have any luck getting these to work? Are there any slot-games on MAME that do support outputs/Mamehooker or another method to control LEDs from the game itself? I'd prefer some Australian games, but US ones would also be suitable if it came down to it.

Thanks,

Never mind, I'm an idiot, didn't have MameHooker 'enabled'. Got it running properly, and yes, it detects outputs from these games, so that's awesum.

Thanks,

ok, sorry to keep posting, perhaps a follow up question. Since the games can indeed trigger outputs for the lights, does any one know if they can trigger a hopper output as well when a payout/collect happens? If I had one and used a relay type setup with a light output controller, could you adapt the payout pulses to an actual hopper, or is that beyond the scope of the MAME implementation?

And a follow up post here. I've submitted a mod to mame dev that enables usage of a real hopper. This shuts of the virtual hopper and coin-dispense emulation, and maps these functions to a physical hopper (output) and coin dispense switch (physical switch or opto via key press "\")

This has been accepted and published in mame 0.152, so if anyone wants to play, this should be good to go. Let me know if you want further mods in this respect, I'm planning on adding support for proper door switches, and still need to map out all of the meters to physical outputs. Got 2 functional so far, need to pin down the others.

Edit: oh and hopper full/coin diverter support is also on my todo list.

Nice work with the button lights, I was wondering how well mame could connect to buttons, but actually the light flashes also etc. It would be cool to see a photo.

I'll put some videos up once I've got the cabinet work finished. It's currently getting painted and cleaned up. once this is done, I'll get her all back together and show off the button LEDs via MAME.
