Hi All.  New to the forum and this is my first post.  I have an older IGT video poker machine in Vegas (picture of the ID plate attached.)  The sound has never worked right on it but the rest of the machine works great.  One button went bad so I had the tech out to fix it and also take a look at the sound issue.  He fixed the button quickly and removed the sound board so it could be rebuilt.  A month or so later I got it back and reinstalled it.  Same issue (no difference.)  The sound acts as follows:  No matter what button is pushed, the sound cycles through each of the available types of sounds.

Any ideas on the issue?  The tech says maybe a bad cable but it seems to me this might be a processor issue?  There are some connectors in the machine that aren't hooked up to anything, but the tech seemed to not be concerned about them.  Maybe something is plugged in wrong?  Any help will be greatly appreciated! Help

Hi HPINFO!

 NLG Welcome

I read one time on this forum that there was such a machine in the 80's that was specifically designed to play a sound with every push of the button and that it didn't last long on the casino floor because of it.  I noticed your machine has a year of 1981, so could be a candidate.  Some would find that machine valuable because of that feature.  I could be wrong ... will wait for someone else to reply.  The old post might be here somewhere.  The best thing to do would be to take a picture of the front of the machine so everyone can see what it looks like.  The folks here know quite a bit from looking at the machine, whereas, the ID plate doesn't tell much about the machine.

Considering the sounds it makes, I would think they are for specific things.  One sounds like notes counting up, one is the same but faster, one sounds like notes counting down, etc.  Does anyone have experience with what the sounds are on a (correctly operating) machine of this vintage?  What type of sound occurs with a win, a loss, card selection, etc.?  I may try to get some video with sound so people can hear it.  Is it possible to post video on this site?

If someone can find the post that 4 Deuces mentioned and link to it, that would be great!

Well, I found the topic I was thinking of, but after reviewing it, I'm not sure that's the same issue you're having.  A video is in the link.

Thanks Dave.  I believe I misspoke on my original post.  It isn't on button push but on coin insert that it makes the noises.  Each coin put in makes a different noise.  Like I mentioned, the noises 'seem' like they should be for certain events, since some sound like 'positive' noises and some sound like 'negative' noises.  Mine is exactly like the one in the video, so I guess that's how it's supposed to sound??

Oh!  Okay, then, yes, that's how it's supposed to sound.  I guess the good news is that you now know you have what's referred to as a "IGT Fortune I machine".  You can find lots of topics about that machine in the "Fortune I" section if you click on Forum Index button at the top.  A picture of the front would have also confirmed it because of the fact that it doesn't have a bill validator, is a little thinner than the later models and has the thin plexie along the right side of the monitor.

Congratulations on your find.   Clap  If you have any other questions about your machine, don't hesitate to post under the Fortune I section.

Yep.  It's weird, and very Atari 2600-ish, but yes, that's "normal" for a Fortune I.
