Post by: mowtisss on January 26, 2014, 03:14:31 AM
Hello been awhile since I have posted in there.. Well I finally decided to upgrade my S2000 IGT to backlit reels.. Can someone direct me to a post that show's step by step how to install the power supply ect.. Or if this isn't one give me directions / pictures on how to do it.. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you!  I still have another week before I get them so it's no hurry.  :61-

Did you just buy the reels? Or a complete set of the parts needed to change them? You will need more then just the reels...

Backlit reels
Backlit I/O harness
Backlit reel harness
Backlit control board

It's pretty simple, you'll be up and running in no time.

While we are on the subject -

I have several bulbs out on my backlit reels.  What are the preferred bulbs/LED equivalents for maximum effect?

Any suggested suppliers for bulbs?

I have a local pinball show coming up at the end of February, but may want to do something prior to that.

Thanks!

The only thing that works right in those is the original XE359 bulbs. Anything else is too bright, too dim or could damage you back light controller

Cool. It'll be a simple process then..

Did you get a kit or purchase 'Backlit' strips for your game?

Ok.. 1st pic - You put your backlight controller board here.. (With or without the metal cover.. There is also a longer bolt-on cover that will require you to remove a few bolts, then attach.. Not sure what you have..) There is a white molex connector that will be in that area, connect it.

2nd pic - Connect the I/O harness to the I/O and the controller board.

All while the machine is OFF obviously.. More pics, one sec..

Now remove your reel harness from the back of the reel tray and the mother board.., Connect the back-light harness in it's spot and connect the far end to the controller board, upper right. -Replace reels with the backlit ones. Fire that badboy up..

(And yes, I have 3 arms as seen in the last pic.. I happen to wear my watch on my small other left wrist.)

There is a marker on the outside of the reel basket to show where the notch goes on the strip. It's the largest bump/marker on the outside of the reel basket..

I kinda round the strips when installing, not fold or over bend them, but make an arch and spin the reel around letting the strip fit into the groove.. Then pull kinda tight on the strip, especially on the 'open' side of the strip/basket and adhere..

My board will also run LED, the one you have is fine, just has different connector placement. The I/O, reel harness, and connector from the machine will fit into each.

If you have a reg. s-2000 and not a vision the pwr. molex connector is wire tied/secured near the pwr. supply.  Needed to pwr the board.  Reels will still spin etc.-no pwr-no work.  Check it out.

Right.. Thanks. - I simply stated to plug the 4 wire molex thats near.., I should've been more detailed regardless.

Mowtiss, how many connectors do you have plugged into the back light controller board?

only 2 one to from the board to the hook up where the other reel wires were.  And then another from the board to the thing on the side of the mother board the thing that slide's in and out..
