How to fix/check (y)our new machine Part 3

Next in line is the hopper.  Until I get fuse caps and the electric running I can't check anything live, but we can look at the mechanics of the hopper ahead of time.
This is a pretty unique hopper, a custom job, which has two payboards built in.

These two separate payboards are electrically stepped, and I presume that each of the two reel sets controls each payboard.  A mechanically stepped hopper does not have a step up solenoid, but instead has a mechanical link. (no pic available, sorry. maybe someone can post one....)

After removing the top holding screw, we can fold down the board and look at it.

Pointing to the reset solenoid.  This releases the 100 tooth gear and allows it to return to a full reset.  In other words, none of the teeth of your 100 tooth gear are engaged by any pawls or latches.  It is free floating in this case, and when you move the spiral cam, it should return to zero position via the torsion spring.

Of course, to reset the hopper this way, you have to reach waaay back and push the reset solenoid.  Here is another quick way to reset the payboard.  Push down on this latch.

If you push here, the payboard will reset, but will still be latched in.  The step up assembly will still be engaging the 100 tooth paygear, which is really nice for when you want to adjust your torsion spring.  That's ok.   Fold your payboard back up, and you will see where this reset pawl is.  It's very easy to reset your payboard this way, and may save you a lot of time.
