Title: Bally 873 ZC - Just serviced and stopped working - Help!
Post by: Chedderboy on August 17, 2011, 04:19:16 AM
I just got my Bally 873 back from the shop and everything was working fine for the first four pulls!  After that, the machine stopped paying out.  I thought perhaps the hopper motor failed, but if I click the payout lever where the coins come out, the hopper starts paying after 10-20 clicks.  The machine coins in fine, the lights work, the florescencent lights are on, the coin accepted is on, and everything else seems ok.  When it lands on a payout though, nothing happens.  The winner paid light does not come on.  Any ideas before I drag it back to the shop?  Thanks!

problem is probably in your hopper assembly.  you can manually check to see if the counter is working.  most likely it is the rubber stopper that cushions the counter flyback is stuck and not dropping on the first pulse of the count cycle. this is a very common problem with these machines. there are two solenoids behind the counter face plate. the one on top (right corner) is the step up counter, the one on the bottom (lower left) if the reset. manually move these solenoids and observe what is happenning. you will see the if the rubber stopper is holding the switch activator from dropping. If all this is good, then there is probably a set of switch contacts on the payout relay (rear of hopper)  that could be your problem.

Thanks for the help Jim.  I checked those things out and nothing appeared wrong.  I took it back to the slot shop and the guy worked his magic.  He ended up filing around the center of the hopper board out a little because the plastic gear had swelled.  It immediately started working when he put it back together! Amazing...

Glad you got it working.

I was going to say that the problem was the belly glass!  :72- :97- :208-

That was a good way.  Another is to file down the shaft of the plastic gear so it slides freely in the hole.  Gordy

Hey Chedderboy... You should see if you could find one of the Black belly glass with the Bally in the center and the fruit symbols around the outer edge for that machine. That would look sweet. I've seen them on EBay from time to time, but you could check with Foxsslots too. I don't remember see one in his listing but you never know...
