If the entire range of behavior was encompassed by that range, then we'd have to redefine an even narrower view of normal, because societal groups have an instinctive need to feel that they have common bonds that hold them together. There can't be an "us" without a "them". Still, it was probably the guy who got kicked out of the cave for being different who invented the wheel.
