Radio Shack sucks. I went in store to get a serial socket. The kid says he doesn't know what they are & if they have them. He says If I have the part # he can check. I came home & went on their site & found it. I ordered some of them & some hoods for them & a USB to serial adapter.  That was on 5/29/11. Today 5/7/11 I receive the hoods. Other things were not available. They credited me. WHAT THE HELL DO I WANT WITH HOODS if don't have the socket. I wasted 1 1/2 wks. for nothing.

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogUSD/643/1373.pdf

The above link might be easier for you to look at.
There's male AND female DB9's so make sure you get the ones you need.
I click on the blue lettering on the left hand side of the page at the "9 position"  line...
"B" and "C" on the right hand side are either the male pins or female receptor pins.

If you dig around mouser and get used to it...you may find some deal with the pins you want already installed in the housings.
I prefer to get the pins separate, solder the wire to the pins then push them into the black plastic housing.
After they're all in, I put the covers on over the whole thing.

IF you go to RadioShack store look in the drawers that all the small parts in them
in fact the front drawer sign has them listed right on it. I think the different D connectors 9, 25, HD 15, hoods take up the whole drawer. i
They have the tool to insert or extract the connectors from the connector body.

IF it is a francise store it could be different but those are rural and very small town stores.

Yeah, it used to be RS was the place to get all sorts of components. Now it is just a cell phone and battery store with whatever leftovers stuck in drawers.  no

In the event I have to ever buy anything from Rat Shack
I always go on line and check my local stores to see if its in stock
get the part # then call the store to confirm they have it before I drive anywhere.

Some items are Web only but I click on Find in store
then type in my zip.

This saves the hassle of hearing what's that  rotflmao
or going home empty handed.

It used to be you could go into Radio Shack and find people like us who knew what we were talking about. Not so much anymore. When I worked in home electronics repair for 12 years we opened the Radio Shack as a natural attribute to the business and it worked out really well, especially when CRT based TVs went in the crapper. When I left to take the job at the powerplant 4 years ago we were doing almost a million a year on the Radio Shack side in a town of 3500, county of 5000 people, but the profitability of the repair side had gone the way of the TVs by then. You just can't pay knowledgeable people a good wage to work in a place like that anymore.

I couldn't find a video of the 1950s opening. Besides, this theme is more catchy, and I remember it from my childhood.

Seriously, if they refuse to refund the extra shipping charge, I would file a complaint with the credit card company; however, I think RS will refund the difference now that you've complained. It reminds me of Happ's policy.

You might have to specify in all future RS orders that you want the items sent out in one shipment. If you do that and they still end up splitting the order because of internal concerns, they can't charge you extra.

Way to go Ford  Mail... We have a Radio Shack here in town, and any time I go in there I've never seen the same person working behind the counter. It seems they are more focused on selling cell phones now a days then what got them where they are...  loser

That's because so very few people fix or buils anything anymore. A physical store can't hardly compete on that alone with all the internet competition anymore. We sold a pretty fair share of parts, but there used to be big money in cell phones a few years ago. We were clearing $200 on a new contract and $100 to $150 on upgrade renewals times the 3000+ customers we had. Good money, then. Peanuts now, I've seen what my brother in law makes on contracts now and it's barely 10% of what it used to be

Wow that sucks, but that's what this world has turned into. The rich get richer and the working person takes it in the wallet.
