Title: Hello, what type of oil or grease to use on reels. 1965 space
Post by: Fortytwo on December 02, 2013, 08:41:55 PM
Hello,
I am new here so.  Hi

I recently got a 1965 space three reel slot.  I like the fact that its electromechanical.   I have a lot of experience in pinballs.  First slot.

I almost have the mech rebuilt but am unsure as to what to lube the reels with.  I have heard grease but won't that slow them down too much.  I was thinking 40 wt zoom oil.

So far I have been using Teflon grease or 3 in 1 pending application.  I have searched the net and a general what oil where thread would have been really useful.  Especially the fact that the is no info on my slot no even a too picture of the inside.

This repair is fun and I see myself finding a basket case purely mechanical one before too long.
Thanks for the help.  I hope to be spinning tonight.
Ed

OldReno would be the best to answer this one, but I seem to recall my husband using Food Grade silicone lube on machines, but I can ask him tonight if OldReno does not chime in by then.

Oh, and welcome!

Thanks.  I ended up cheating and worked some light weight oil between the reels.   It's working correctly now.
