I recently picked up a "Top Dollar". One thing about thses is they COOK the top box until its brittle. i got lucky and found one in good shape.
Now IGT was kinda smart, they use #658 lamps in there to cut down on the heat, but the graphics look like crap and kinda yellowed.
In this area, you have PLENTY of room to get creative. So here is what I did....
I got a pile of 24 volt LED clusters that were practically worthless. the LED's SUCKED, were too narrow and not real bright.
I stripped them down to just the board. Installed some High brightness LED's in them,angled to cover more area and changed the resistor.
here are before and after pics of the clusters.Since they install from the FRONT, they dont have to fit thru a hole....

This is a picture of the work in progress. You can see the differance in color and brightness where I have not yet replaced the #658's
Will do a video when i get them all in,takes a while to build each one...

Pictures of the glass temp put back in (minus switches). Notice the differance in the colors of the bills. The #658 areas look yellow, the LED's look more colorful...

Here is the glass with the LED's behind it, everyone except the area behind the "Top Dollar"  ran out of little PCB's....
I have a AVI to upload, but its longer than 5 seconds..so its too big....

Kirk,  It looks good--Not just good--Great.  My game does not have those burnt looking issues.  I elected to keep my late model s+ top dollar due to shipping constraints.  I like the newer s-2000 top dollar's --That is why I was willing to let my other go--Though the game play is great on both.  Good Job,  Thanks, K+ and and Happy New Year. I had a bunch of LED's here (just ordered a bunch of Red/Green/Blue/Yellow and WHite ones).
The Top Dollar has a pile of #658's up there (gets quite warm).
I need to find a source of the little printed circuit boards that are the size of a "Wedge" bulb, with enough room to put a SMD resistor on the PCB.
The idea is to put ONE "Pirana" Superflux LED on the end of the PCB.These are insanely bright,have a dispersion angle of over 140 degrees and will fit where a 194/658/555 bulb would go (large pushbuttons). Simply changing the resistor will make them 6 or 12 volts.
If anyone knows where I can find these, it will make it easy for all of us to BUILD LED's for bottons and LED clusters for machines...
