I have a 4 reel kit for Freedom Stars (aka Super Spin Sizzlin 7s or Diamond Stars).  The game has the standard 3 reels plus a 4th bonus reel.  The problem is that the 4th reel is not recognized by the machine. In setting up the machine it spins up the standard reels but not the 4th reel.  I keep getting Aux Reel Disconnected error and the machine locks out on that message.  I have tried changing reel harnesses, I/O boards (both cabinet and door), even tried swapping out the bonus reel for a regular reel to make sure it's functional.

Any ideas on how to get this kit going would be appreciated.  The only other thing I can think of is that it need a specific version chip.  I'm currently using VS009GX0.

Well, I  just checked the PSR for SG000149 and VS009GX0 is the correct version chip.  So it can't be the version chip.

The question is does the installed I/O card support the 4th reel or does it require a different onel?

That's a good question.  I did change both I/O cards to newer and updated cards but that didn't help either.  I'm thinking it's a cabinet I/O card thing but I have no way of telling what card it required.

Thanks for that info.

Since you have the machine, what version chip is in it?  and what GME?    I'm using SG000149.

Also, I'm being told that the processor board in these machines is a newer rev.  with the part number ending in 504.  Can you confirm this?

Thanks

i'm going to go try to replicate your problem on one of our machines...i'll post up any findings.    also i'm just curious, did you convert these games to the bonus reel from a standard 3 reel game?

hey Jeff i couldn't get my machine to tilt Aux Reels Disconnected.  when i had the bonus reel out i got Reels Disconnected.

the reason i asked about the conversion is because there may be something else missing??

Yes, this is a conversion of a 3 reel vision ready machine.  Not sure what else could be missing.  The reel shelf came with a 5 reel harness that had a terminator in the 5th reel connector.  I tried it with and without the terminator.   Also tried switching from the 4th to the 5th reel connector too.  It seems like a simple conversion by just plugging the harness in the mother board and backlight controller.  If there is something missing not sure where it would be plugged in unless it goes inline with the reel harness or plugs in the I/O.

Do you notice anything different when comparing it to a standard 3 reel machine?

I wonder if the machine is locked in on 3 reels and if a CLEAR 97 will allow it to see the 4th reel.   It's a pain setting the machine back up after using that chip but it may be worth a try.

Have you tried a softer RAM clear to see if it'll see the 4th reel?

The machine does a RAM clear on its own because all the chips are changed out on the board when they are first installed.

Try the IVC97 clear as the above statement iss only a soft clear.

Right, that's what I was suggesting in the other message above.  Maybe this weekend I'll do that.
Sounds good as that would be about all I can think of other then the original statement about the board part number being 504.    Did you confirm that?

hey Jeff i agree that an all clear might solve your problem.

just wondering, do you have a PCB mounted on the back wall next to the handlebox?  it should be part number 76936300.  it is the back light driver board.  also there would have been a new reel wire harness for that board to connect to the driver board after the reels.  there is also a harness that goes from the driver board to the front of the cabinet I/O.

Hoping Kris Foreman can confirm if a 504 board is in one of this machines.  That may take some time as a gaming agent would be involved when pulling the board out of a machine.

Kris, yes I have that PCB back light comntroller, new reel wire harness connected to the PCB and the harness to the cabinet I/O too.  All that is for the backlit reels though and shouldn't make a difference but I had it hooked up anyway.  I thried it with and without it.

I'll do a IVC Clear 97 this weekend but I hate to do that.  It's sure a pain setting up everything.

Kris, the reel harness that came with these kits is a 5 reel with the 5th reel connector folded up in the back of the shelf with a plug in it containing a blue wire jumper.  I presume your machines have the same arrangement.

I made a mistake above.   I just looked at the wiring schematic for a 5 reel harness and mine are hooked up the same way.  It's hard to tell which connector is actually the 4th and the 5th, they are so short.  The color coding of the wiring in the schematic helped.

Just did the IVC 97 Clear and it didn't help.   I got the same error message in the end....AUX REELS DISCONNECTED

Not sure where to go from here unless it does require a 504 processor board.

Finally got it working thanks to the help of a tech on the Delphi forum.Ê  Ê The problem is that early S2000/Vision Ready and Vision machines are missing a set of wires in the harness connected to the cabinet I/O.Ê The fix is to connect a jumper to pin 14C of the cabinet I/O to A Ground.

This is a really cool game.Ê All 4 reels spin with the bonus reel stopping last.Ê Bonus wheel has Haywire, 2X, 5X, 10X, bonus credit of 5, 10 and 100, and mystery nudge action too.Ê You name it it has it....even dazzle lights around the 4th reel, and backlit on all 4 reels.Ê Plus it announces whatever a bonus is (tells you what the bonus is) with the MM board simm 58.Ê Photo below.

Oh, yes, I do have a mulit-denom version chip in the machine.Ê That's why is shows it in the VFD.Ê I was so excited that the machine finally came up I forgot the set the denomination, so it defaulted to pennies.

Congratulations Jeff!      I played a bonus reel game while I was in Laughlin a few weeks ago and won a little. The announcer was really cool. I thought at the time I would really like one for my next machine.  If you ever compile a list of items it takes to do all  that, I would like a copy. I for one, I'm very interested to know where to get all those components.  Then my next problem would be to find someone to put it all togther   .

That looks really nice! Your persistance payed off. That's the first bonus 4-reeler I've seen outside a casino.
Those back-lit reels look so good too!
Post another pic when you get a big hit like "Ten Times Pay".

Hey Ron, I got all the parts from Jim Masonis......Blue Ridge Slots.  He has all the parts.....one stop shopping.

It's pretty easy to install.  Swaping out the reel shelf is the biggest job.  You probably have half the connections set up already since you have backlit reels.  You will have to change out the backlit controller to a different one if all you have is a 3 reel controller.  If your machine is a 2001 or later you probably have the i/O connector already installed.  All you need is a jumper to turn the 4th reel on.

Haven't hit a 10X or 5X pay yet.......lots of mystery reels action, 2X, Haywires, and bonus credits so far.  The game seems to have a ton of little pays for the 98 percent payback I have it set at.  It's one of those games that keeps you going for a long time.

Contratulations on getting it up and running Jeff.

Now I'm jealous! I played one of the 4 reel bonus machines in Vegas last year and didn't do very well, but it was fun and I know I'd enjoy it at home.

Oh well... not right now. I'm looking at the cheap err, economy market right now: Universals.

Excellent piece of engineering work Jeff.

Scary how much these things are morphing towards the Pachislo look....

A couple of questions:

Out of curiosity can you still insert all of your S+ chips with that installed and just hide that forth reel ? or do you have to undo all of your hard work.

How many 4 reel games are there or are you pretty much stuck with the one theme ?

The reel shelf and reel harness must me removed and switched back to the 3 reel shelf and harness which is hedl in place on the back of the shelf.  There are only 3 screws holding the slef in.  The backlit controller runs 3-5 reels so that can be remain even if no backlit reels are used.  The reel glass has to be changed back to 3 reels since the reels are moved over to the left to mack room for the 4th reel.  The dazzle light are just an inline connection to the mother board so that a quick disconnect. The only other thing left is the added connection to 14C on the cabinet I/O and I the harness up with a jumpers so all I do is pull the jumper out of the circuit to disable it.  So it's a 15-20 minutes job at the most to make it back to a 3 reel machine.

The game I am playing is Diamond Stars but typical of IGT, it has clones..........AKA Freedom Stars and Super Spin Sizling 7s.  There are several other 4 reels games listed on the IGT web site like Big Time Pay and it's clones.  In the future, I would like to try the conversion to a 5 reel game.  They are pretty popular in the casinos but that would entain changing out the bet deck to do it correctly.  The S2000 is a pretty modular machine so componenets can be changed out without too much effort.

This machine has come a long way.  It started out as a 9" Vision Ready. Added backlit reels and swapped out the 9" for a Round Top with ears speakers.  Then added the Vision kit. Then added the speaker tray.  Then changed it to a 4 reel machine. I'm ready to be a slot tech when I retire in Las Vegas

The button panel is removeable on the S-2000, when you get the other parts you will get the button panel and harness as well, when a IGT (either reel or video) uses a second row of buttons, a second I/O card is added, the 5 reel games are the hottest money makers for a casino, that's why they are changing out the 3 reel games to 5 (at 5800 a crack in new parts)
