Is there a type od cleaner or polish that someone could suggest to clean my Bally slot button deck that has the shiny gold finish? I usually use simple green or windex but neither is working very well.

def dont use windex on gold chrome it will fade it out.........i need this part polished to shine...... dont no what to use either.........

Hold on there!!  ttth That stuff would probably take the gold layer right off of the chrome. Are you SURE that Brasso is safe for gold colored doors? Scratch Head

Yes it was, and it's great for chrome, but the fake gold plating used on slots is easily damaged and/or removed. I don't know if Brasso is safe for gold doors or not, but I'd be very cautious about advising anyone to use it on gold trim until someone with experience maintaining gold doors posts an answer.

There was a whole topic on this a while back and a lot of comments against using brasso on gold finishes. Damned if I can remember what was recommended though

Everyone has different ways of doing things, so who really knows what is best.  I agree, I would definitely not use the Brasso on the gold finish for a considerable length of time or quantity, especially on the Bally's.  In truth, the best way to clean any chrome, gold or silver, is to use a very soft micro-fiber towel and a lot of elbow grease.  For you youngsters out there, the definition of elbow grease is to polish the chrome with such a force and for such a length of time that you find yourself breathing hard and sweating.

Typically on a surface that has already been polished and you just want to dress it up, what I would do is take a micro-fiber towel and spray a light amount of Windex on it.  Wipe the surface down lightly just to knock down the finger grease stains.  Then flip the towel over to the dry side and polish it well with a dry cloth.

In your case Staz, I know you are near the coast and based on this post and one or two others I have seen recently, I think you are starting to experience some oxidation build-up.  When you start getting a raised flaky and rough surface you are seeing, this is the results of a lot of moisture in the air...salty air is even worse.  You may consider using a dehumidifier in your game room.  At any rate, you should know that the chrome on your Bally was in fact treated initially with Brasso and as you can see it did not harm the finish.  The trick is to apply it lightly and remove quickly.  Set your timer...from the time you apply a light enough amount to remove the oxidation to the time you wipe it off...make it less than 30 seconds.  My feeling is if it is caked on and allowed to sit, of course the deeper into the finish its going to eat it away...so try to not do that.  Finish with a dry micro-fiber towel with some pressure and you will see it shine up as nice as the day you got it.

i will def try that .........one more dumm ?? i swapped inside speakers on my s2000 as i took them appart i cant figure why they are stuffed with cotton?

Keeps the sound coming from just the speaker and not vibrating through the enclosure it's mounted in resulting in a "cleaner" sound. Especially effective at higher volumes.

My plater tells me that the bally gold finish is indeed gold, but maybe he's just guessing.  In any case, the layer is thin and soft and will wear off easier than you think.  A non abrasive cleaner works best.  I wouldn't overdo it either.

Wayne  I maybe talking apples and oranges, but on a couple of PE slant tops ( Gold finish )  I took a pad of very, very course steel wool and removed the clear coat that was above the Gold. The steel wool would not even scratch the Gold finish.

We did remove the Gold finish on a couple of S+ but had to use steel wool and acetone.
