Hi Everyone - I just got back with my trip and I'm playing with this machine again.  I got the chip from Jim and here is what happened -  I pulled out the transport and cash can.  I put the chip in and placed the can and transport back in.  Now I am getting an error 55 (cash can not installed) -  I pulled it in and out same error 55.
There is a switch on the back of the holder for the can.  What are the correct position for the wires?  There are two of them and they were both loose.

I did a RAM clear and that took care of that -

But still I have a problem with the bill validator - it still doesn't crank up when I turn on the machine and I get the red x on the front display.

Do I have to do anything to activate it ?

Welcome back, I hope your cruise went well.  The switch in the rear of the cash can/bv housing can be removed as it doesn't do anything for home use.  55 just meant that your BV didn't initialize.  Do you hear it cycle when you restart or remove and reinstall the cash can?  does it sound like it's straining?  Your BV may need servicing.  open the head and see if the belts are loose?.

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks Wayne!!!! The cruise was great - I spent some time in the casino - they had tuns of S-2000 machines and a tuns of wms dotmation machines.  I also looked at the igt-i games they had about 10 titles.   (just scoping out my next purchase muhahahaaa) -

Anyway back to the problem at hand -- after I did the ram clear the machine boots up will let me play with coin -   I don't hear the bv cycle at all.

That's the danger of going to a casino, I find myself shopping, only without the stressful feeling that I have when I go shopping with my wife.

as for your BV you need to check both the orientation of the chip (notch) as weel as look for bent pins.  Also check the harness from the connector on the housing to the backplane board, remove reel # 3 to gain easy access.  Do the leds on the bv light up, look in the slot as well as from the side where the dip switches are for the red light. Do you have another one to try, I have come across a few bad transports and/ or heads.

Thanks,
Wayne

I followed the wires down from the harness to the connector and I see a yellow and black wire that aren't connected to anything as well as three red and black wires that have been cut.  The head does have red glowing lights  -

I have attached some pictures

It looks like I have another clue to this... That black and yellow wire look like they went to another one of those switches that Wayne said could be removed.   Now here is where things get interesting -  I am back with that code 55.

When I open the door I get the normal error 50 - but then I get error 50.29  Which is a communication problem with the BV.

I have a feeling you have either a bad head or transport, the 55 error would go away if the bv initialized correctly.  I'm guessing you don't have a spare.  Anyone close to you?

I forgot to ask what your main board settings were? dip switches set to JCM?  DS2 sw5 on, sw6 off fro the JCM WBA.  If these are set wrong it could do it.

Thanks,

I would guess head first as the Canadian games had the head replaced here in the US, but also make sure the connector in the rear of the frame is the same (for a WBA 12/13 and not a wedge connector for a 10/11) also that the harness is plugged into the backplane,  but if you send me the Head and Transport I would be more than glad to test and see if that is the problem

Yeah unfortunately I don't have a spare.  What I'm going to do is test the continuity between the wires on the transport connector and the head.   That bundle of small wires looks like they were pinched going in and out of the slot.

I checked the board and the correct switches are set -

Could it be the chip I bought?   How much does a 13  transport go for?

I agree with Jim, it's most likely the head, when the bv doesn't cycle at all.
