Title: WILLIAMS - GRAND PRIX - PIN BALL
Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on July 15, 2012, 01:57:12 PM
First of all - I am NOT a pinball guy - know my old slots but the nomenclature and the sequence of events is all new to me - I have the wire diagram and manual for this machine (which is my nephews - I am doing him a favor  -  has a Gottlieb also - seperate thread for that one).  This one when you start all of the score counters keep cycling -  - not all the counters - for example Player one the 10s counter keeps cycling but the 100s 1000s etc stay at zero - player 2  10000 counter keeps cycling but does not stop at zero -  If I manually set all the counters to 0 the game will start - but won't go to ball2 or 2nd player.   I also have the schematic and an instruction manual.

Might try this just for kicks.

I think some of the pinball guys are not on here as often as slot guys.
There are more forums on Pinballs, just Google.  :89-

I have 3 pinballs, but none are the old EM's like you are talking about here.  I used to have an EM and it had this same problem but I have been trying to think back ever since you posted the question as to what the fix was.  I cannot remember what the fix was but it has to do with a switch not reading that the numbers are all back to "0" so it keeps turning the numbers until the switch closes.  I am sure you figured that much out so I am probably of no help.  I can point you to the Google board that is somewhat like NLG in that many techs hang out there.  Unfortunately that board has a lot of flaming of members and bickering which pretty much turned me away from there.  Post the question though and see what you get--couldnt hurt.  https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/rec.games.pinball (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/rec.games.pinball)  Make sure the first word in the title of your post over there is "TECH:" as that will get the right people headed your way.  Good luck!

Easy fix, and very common on the old Williams EM's.  On the score reels that keep running, remove each one one at a time.  While holding it in your hand, advance the coil plunger so as to manually run the reel in your hand while you can watch it.  Pay close attention to the little stack of switches.  When the reel gets to the number 9, you will notice this closes a switch, the 9th position switch.  This is normal.  Now, actuate it one more time to move to the zero position.  Notice how it attempts to now OPEN another switch.  The switch is not fully opening, which is why it keeps running through reset cycle.  The zero position switches both must open.  A liitle quick bend to those contacts, and you should be in business.

Nice job Bill!   :3-   I knew it was something like that but just couldnt remember exactly how they were set up.  Hopefully that will get Foxslots up and running!
   :259- for the effort.
