I had tried Uship several times over the past year - for those who don't know what Uship is - it is a site that you can put your shipping needs out for bids - from major truck lines to fly by night drivers.  I FINALLY got a deal found a reasonable quote to get 6 machines shipped from Indiana to Florida - GUARENTEED 72 HOURS!!! from time of pickup to delivery - WELL its been 30 days since expected delivery!!!!   Now I don't know at this point if I can fault Uship - they haven't responded and I don't know what they can do.  The shipper is being an AH - first of all - had all kinds of reasons for not delivering - that is when I could get in touch with him - now that I finally had enough - filed a complaint with Uship (waiting) got my 1/2 deposit back from Paypal (i think - I filed a complaint and they have issued a refund with a hold until 1/26 for whatever reason).  The shipper now says I CAN COME AND GET THEM as he cannot get any loads to Florida AND if I don't come get them HE WILL CHARGE ME STORAGE.  For those of you in Palatine, Il the guy is Thomas Mazurkiewicz.
So at this point I am out the money I paid for the machines.   I will ad posts as the saga continues.........

First, sorry to hear about the problem and possible loss of $$. However a quick Google before using them should have raised some red flags. Seems like you are not alone.

The machines are potentially not legal in the state that they are being held......

I would call the cops and see what they can do for you.

Used U-ship once and obtained a quote for shipping two machines from NJ to FL.
Decided to use a guy who said he had a truck going to Florida. I paid him via Paypal and he called me the next day. Claimed he was getting a better rate using his volume discount with FedEx Trucking. He sent me a prepaid waybill and the truck arrived for pick-up the next day. I caught an flight home and the next day the pallet arrived at my home.
I thought all was well until 6 months latter the guy never paid FedEx. FedEx was now sending the bill to the pick-up location (my brothers home) and it was now a whopping $1200. Called FedEx and gave them all the info, Paypal payment made, contact info, etc.
Another 6 month go by and my brother calls me to tell me he's getting more bills from FedEx. They now want $1600.00 for shipping the machines with the late fees.
More phone calsl and faxing over more proof of payment to my contracted shipper before FedEx finally gave up on trying to collect from the pick-up address.

Long story short, It's like if you pay a contractor to do work on your home and you pay him final payment before you get a satisfaction of lien. The homeowner will be held responsible for the materials that the contractor did not pay for.

UPDATE - so far so good - Filed claim with PAYPAL for the 1/2 deposit that the shipper received - APPROVED and in my account - YES!!!  next I have a Paypal claim against USHIP for the deposit and fee they charged - they countered with me having to cancel the transaction etc and I would receive my payment back in the form of a CREDIT TOWARDS FUTURE SHIPMENTS!!!!  needless to say - my response thru Paypal was THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD USE THEIR SERVICE -  so the claim is in PAYPALS hands.  As for the machines - I have a friend who lives 2 towns over from the idiot who has them - he has AGREED? to meet with my friend after 8PM  to pick them up at his storage facility.  WE SHALL SEE what happens - not very accomadating but no sense making more waves.  the SAGA CONTINUES - updates will follow.

Funny business that has late operating hours.
I hope your friend doesn't go alone.

well getting alot better - my friend picked up my machines last night - they were as expected - the SHIPPER was cordial - and my friend got out of there alive.  He is dropping them off at NAVL today - costing me twice as much but I won't have to chase them - so I am only waiting of $58 from USHIP via Paypal.   Lesson learned - was not costly financially but what a trip...   So moral of story - STAY AWAY FROM USHIP!!!!!

Maybe it would be a good idea and a good service to post a scam alert under a seperate heading somewhere here.

Glad you're getting your machines, and even if you have to eat the $58 and of course paying for more expensive shipping, at least it's better than the alternative.

to bad that USHIP didn't go the extra yard and provide some insurance - the idea/concept is good - just needs to address the issues.

well the saga is ALMOST over - got my charge back thru PAYPAL for the deposit and fee charged by USHIP ($58)  and my machines should arrive friday via NAVL  - cost me twice what the USHIP deal would have - plus the fact I wouldn't have bought them in the first place if it wasn't for the lowball shipping quote.  So by Friday - this bump in the road will be history.
