Title: Can PE machines be changed to coinless?
Post by: ukulele on September 17, 2013, 03:10:18 AM
I have 3 new PE Deuces Wild machines to work on. The machines are slant tops with 13” non-touch monitors. The CPU board is on the left side and is vertical. There are bill acceptors and they are in the upper right of the machine.

Is it possible to adjust these machines to be coinless and just use credits (bills)?

Does anyone know the correct key chips for these machines? I would be in the market if someone has extras. Please P.M. if available.

Thank You

Philip

Sounds like those would be PE+ machines if they have bill validators, not PE machines.

There are no "key chips" for a PE+ machine -- there is a RAM clear chip, and there are a few SET chips out there which are used to set the denomination and enable the bill validator.  If your bill validators are already enabled, you don't need a SET chip at this time.

All of the other options are accessed through the self test menu system by pressing the white self test button located near the MPU board enclosure, near the power switch.  Make sure you have zero credits on the machine to be able to see and access all of the available setup options.

There are separate settings for the hopper size and the bill credit limits, but I don't think you can set the bill credit limit higher than the hopper limit, and if you set the hopper limit to zero (or 1), every single win is a handpay which you obviously don't want.

The PE+ wasn't designed to work in a coinless environment, and I'm not sure that you'll be able to tweak the settings to get where you want to be with it.  You could consider a hopper simulator which would allow you to build up credits, and then they would be zapped off when you hit the Cash Out button (as the machine would think it is paying out coins).  See this thread (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=25637.0) for details.

You know, I have seen some pe+ with the sidemounted dbv and a ticket printer (dot matrix type) in some indian casinos here.  When you cash out, the credits count down and it spits out a printed ticket (not ez-pay type, just like on a paper roll and old fashioned dot matrix in red ink).  I'm assuming some company built a hopper emulator that counts down credits and then spits out a ticket.  The tickets are cashed out by an attendant, it doesn't have a validation system.

While this is not TITO, you can get close.

1. Coin in
By loosing two nuts on the bottom of the PE+ coin entry the coin head comes off and you can put on a chrome blanking plate.
This forces you to use bills only

2. Coin out.
If you set the max hopper pay to 1 (most games wont let you go to 0) whenever someone hits the cash/credit button the machine will go into hand pay and flash "Call Attendant" you then need to clear the credits using the jackpot reset key. The main glitch with this is that if you have 1 coin left and hit cash out you get a hopper error which also generates a Call Attendant, but you do have to open the door and hit the white button.

To avoid this glitch I have seen people put in a knotched cardboard disk into their hopper. As the disk spins it simulates a coin passing the hopper optic and allows the system to count down. In this case 1 credit.

Jay, I tried that in MAME and every winning hand resulted in a handpay because it exceeded the hopper limit (even though the wins would have otherwise gone to credits).

In the older S+ chip set (SP731) when you set Hopper Limit you were also setting Credit Limit.
Sounds like the same here.

In the newer SP1271 you had separate Credit Limit and Hopper Limit.

Are you perhaps running emulation of a non superboard game ??

Dot matrix printer kits are still available, try one of the vendors here they might be able to help. Or yeah a hopper emulator.

I tried it on one of the multi-poker sets, so that's a superboard game.  You're right, though, it may vary by game or chipset.

Thanks for the help. I'm hoping to work on these machines soon as they are at my vacation/retirement home. Currently I'm waiting for 4 monitor circuit boards I sent to Ceronix.

I was showing my wife how nice one of the machines looked while working and did a stupid thing. Money was put in and I won. Now I have credits on the machine that are stopping me from reaching the menus. The problem is it is a $1.00 machine and I have no dollars or tokens. How can I delete the credits without accessing the menus?

Regards,

Philip

1. Play the credits off - to lose.
2. Run clear chip through machine.
3. Remove battery from motherboard.
Start game without battery
Reinstall battery
** note this is a solder job.
4. Assuming super board, change to non super board game.
Start up, change back to original game.
