I had issues with one of my 3 Drop In poker pe plus games. Thought the game board made the hold 4 and 5 buttons not work, bought a new board, put it in, still no working buttons. Already had tested them, tested the wires. all worked. Called a guy that suggested maybe a wire was switched on button 4 and it broke the chain to button 5 so neither worked. Well, almost dead on. It was on hold button 3 that a 2 wires were reversed and it caused them not to work.

Meanwhile, tossing in the new board turned off my DBV-200 and searching on line it seems i need a "set chip" to fix this? I haven't seen anywhere to buy one. It seems like from what I have read that I need to take the game chips off the board and use this "set chip" to turn it on? All the chips? Looks like there is a bank of 2 chips near the battery and another of 4 below that are removable. Anyone help explain a Set Chip and a Clear Chip and where to get them?

Thanks!!! Ron

NLG Welcome

Welcome to the site, Ron!   applause

You've found a great resource for information about your PE+ machines.

A SET chip is easy to use, and you don't have to replace all of the chips to use it -- just one of them.  I wrote a guide on how to use the SET chip on the PE+ -- you can find it at this link.

The one pictured is a SET038 -- there are a couple of other set chips that will work, too.  If you need to purchase one, may I suggest Jim at Blueridge slots?  I've purchased items from him before, he's one of the site-supporting vendors here, and he's a great asset to the home slot owner community.  You can send him a PM through this link.  A clear chip clears the memory of the EEPROM, but is rarely ever needed.  I don't even have one for my PE+, as I have never needed it.  If you're really concerned that you may need one in the future, I'm sure Jim has them available as well.

Yes, as you discovered, the buttons are wired in series, and if one is stuck (or mis-wired), it can cause others to not work.  The self-test input screen can help to diagnose future button trouble.  ...and don't forget to post here, too -- we can help you troubleshoot your machine for free!

Care to post some pictures of your machines?  Are they mounted in a bar?  Did you build the bar yourself?

Again, welcome to the site.   applause

Ok. I got my Set Chip and my Clear chip today in the mail. Did as instructed and now when I put the game chip back in after activating the bill changer, all it gives me is CALL ATTENDANT and CMOS DATA. So now what?
I have a spare board and it does the exact same thing. I tried the CLEAR chip on the board with 5 games in it didn't help it at all. Now what?
Thanks

Ron   I really don't remember it's been a long time, but try pressing the test button and closing the door.

In this case you turn the Jackpot reset key and press the self test button. When you run through all the different screens the cmos error will be gone. Close the door and play.

To get the dbv to work with the set chip you need to set a denomination on both the machine and the bill validator......

Set the denomination on the bill validator?
I tried to hold down reset and the white button, give me some several statistical screens, comes back to verifying game and give me the same cmos error.
Tried the clear chip, game chip and back to the set chip and then it tells me the set chip cant be used and i need to set the denomination before using it. Not in those exact words, it's 1 am and I am done for the night   Scratch Head
Not sure what to do now.
Thanks for the suggestions. Hope you have more Smiley

When you have the door open, press and hold the white self test button for about 5 seconds, (not press and repress) if you get a ding, then close door and turn Jackpot reset key, lower door should be on, the CMOS should clear, if no ding and the CMOS goes away while holding self test down, just close the door, like Jay said you will need to use the Set chip to activate the BV, hope you obtained the correct Set and Clear chip for PE+ and not a Reel Slot, they are different

Starting from the beginng......

You have two CMOS chips. One is on the MPU board (the board in the metal tray that is removeable) and the other is on the motherboard (fixed board that the removeable board slides into).

When these two chips get out of sync with each other you get a CMOS error.......

The purpose of the CMOS is to store all of the game statistics, coins in, games played,  coins out etc..... this information is required by gaming regulators and such to verify jackpots and the "honest" operation of the machine.

When you run a clear chip through the machine this info is wiped back to factory setttings and you will also get this same error.

Starting with the game chip in the machine - the first time you hit the white button you will get a statistic screen, the next will be a test screen (or vice versa) ... eventually you will get to a deomination screen where you set the game to be 1c, 5c, 25c etc..... you change the values by turning the jackpot reset key. You also set the number of coins. Usually PE+'s used 5 coins or 10 coins. I personally find 10 to be too annoying and 3 to be two few.  You then continue to press the self test button and you continue through a series of screens where you can turn on and off animation, music settings etc....

If you still have the error after you close the door, open the door again. Hold in the self test button for solid 5 seconds - you may or may not hear a ding or ping. Then close the door.
If you still have the error, repeat holding the button and afterwards turn the jackpot reset key, and close the door. The error should be gone.

At this point your DBV will still not work. You then use the set chip in the game board, but once it starts up you choose the denomination again using the reset key to select the denomination. Normally it should match what you have set in the setup screens but it doesn't need too.....

When you go back to the game chip your DBV should light up.

If your game is sitting on a CMOS error screen, follow the instructions that Jim (blueridge) posted above.  If you're already used the set chip as I described in the link in my first reply, chances are you've already set the denomination and enabled the validator.  You do not need to set the denomination twice -- just the one time with the set chip is fine.

Let us know where you're at now and we'll make sure to get you up and running -- you're very close now!

Ok, some progress, and then back to square 1.
Decided to clear out all my attempts and started with the clear chip. Cleared, turned it off, put in the game chip, set the denomination. The game was working with quarters at that time. Turned it off, installed the set chip (says on the chip IGT PE Plus Set Denom (69A8)), turned on the bill acceptor, saved it, turned off the game, reinstalled the game chip and still get the cmos error. I get the ding if I hold down the reset after about 5 seconds. If I can get it to go to the statistics screen, it just runs through them for each game pack but never gives me the normal test screen and all, just the one where initializes to start the game. Still the same CMOS error. If I close the lid (being a drop in) and restart the game, all I get is Call Attendant, it shows door open and cmos error once I open the lid. And that is were it is stuck. A vicious circle. Going in the pool. Coming back after I eat my dinner and see if there is something else I can try.
Thanks for all your assistance.

Okay, great, no problem.

To be clear, you should never see the statistics screen in this process.  It's not the end of the world if you do, but it's not necessary to get to any statistic or test screen to clear the CMOS error, and if you get into one, you won't be able to clear anything until you're out of it.

- At the CMOS DATA screen, open the door, press and hold the white button for about five seconds.  You should get a ding, which you indicated you did.  Great!

- Close the door, and make sure the "Door Open" message goes away when the door (lid) is closed.  If it doesn't, check your belly door and also make sure your optics on the lid are lining up.  If the "Door Open" message goes away once you have closed the lid, continue on.

- With the door closed, turn the jackpot reset key once.  The screen should blank for a second, and either move to the game display, or another "Call Attendant" screen.  If it brings you to a game display, you're likely in business.  If it brings you to a second "Call Attendant" screen, no worries -- read the next step.

- Open the lid -- the "door open" message should appear with another CMOS error.  Press and release the white self test button, and the game display should appear.

 Dancing Party Dancing Party

 Congratulations

....and WOW, what a bar!   excessive drool

K+ for the picture.  It looks like you even have Bacardi Razz behind the bar -- I'll be right over.  Smiley

If you're able to, would you mind taking a couple more pictures of your machines and the bar itself?  I need to build a bar for my two PE+ drop-ins and I like your setup.  Also, pictures of the PE+ bartops with the embedded bill validators are nearly impossible to find (my bartops don't have the embedded bill validators, but I have the side-mount validators attached to them -- I need to figure out where to mount those in the bar).

Congrats again on getting your machine working -- you'll be a PE+ expert in no time.

Cord is run in the back off the cabinet to an outlet on the bottom shelf inside. Then, all three outlets go to a wall switch so I can turn them on when I like.
