my GQ-4x looks to have died.  Will not read - write ID check KNOWN good eproms - have reloaded the software - unplugged etc.  no change.  Only 2716 64 and 512 eproms - no adapter.  3 years old -  not a high priced item to start with - but based on the number of eproms processed - would have expected a longer life.

That rules out your computer and usb cable. Sounds like the unit itself. This will be the first time I have heard of one going bad, there was one other user that thought his was bad, but it turned out he was putting the chips in backwards.  mcumall is very customer oriented, you may want to contact them, they may assist.

As a side note, a couple of months ago, we were getting some bad checksums, screwy chips, etc. We realized (seconds before we through the burner in the trash) we had been using a different USB port on the computer than we usually do. Unit powered and appeared to write the chip just fine, but not one chip would work. Switched back to usual port, and we were back in business...

We thought we were going crazy.  arrow
