Title: IGT embedded bill acceptor not working
Post by: mstakes on August 07, 2011, 10:33:54 PM
I have am IGT Double Diamond with embedded bill acceptor.  I have taken the bill acceptor apart and can find nothing wrong. When I power up the machine I can hear the bill acceptor turn a bit.  The lights on the bill acceptor are red.  Should they be green when ready to accept?  The light on the outside of the machine is flashing "Insert Bill".  When I put in a bill - Nothing.

In the rear is a cable that connects the bill acceptor to the unit.  This communications wire (looks like a serial cable) splits into four paths.  they are all connected except for one.  I cannot find some place to plug this in.  Does someone have a wiring diagram that I could follow?  The cord that is unplugged has a three pin plug.

Thanks for helping

Mike

A little more info would help. What is the model of the BV unit? Did it ever work? When you say it does nothing, does it not even try to accept the bill or reject it? Pictures always help too.

First two pictures

The first two pictures are for identification.  In these two pictures you can see the black cable with the white connector that I cannot figure out where it connects.  You can see that this cable, along with three others join into the tan serial cable that attaches to the bill acceptor.

Thanks for your help

Sorry to tell you this, chances of getting this unit to work again are slim to none, I'll bet with the none. you have a after market add-on, probably a western money system, finding parts and information will be hard. the cable that comes over from the door is for the display, you have to keep that in place (its transferring data from the plug that would normally go to the display that would be behind the glass where your bill acceptor is now sitting.)

Usually on those units there was a step down transformer that powered the western money system.  other units had an interface board that went between the WMS and the S+ logic board.

Not much else I could pass on, wish I could offer more help.

what's behind the hopper? any plugs that might mate with the one that is open?

Jim

The bill acceptor is a Japan Cash Machine Co. device.  There is a transformer which is also connected to the bill acceptor.  Behind the hopper is the electrical connections for the hopper and a standard electrical outlet.  I am supprised that this is and aftermarket add-on.  It appears to be built in and incorporates the displays for credits, coins paid, and winnings.

I guess this may have to remain a coin machine.  I was hoping to get the bill acceptor working just so the machine would be complete.

Thanks

Maybe if you posted more pictures of the actual BV (close-ups) and behind the hopper it might help.

Attached are two pictures of the BV assembled and opened

Hopper removed.  You can see the tan cable that the cable in question splices from.  The tan cord goes back to the rear of the bill collector.

1) Behind the Hopper is the transformer.

2)Looking down at the area behind the hopper.

Thanks

When I first plug in the unit the bill acceptor will run briefly (like a self test), but when I try to insert a bill it does nothing.

When you go into the self test mode, does it show that it is enabled AND a denomination is set? Just trying to rule out the the basics.

Again when you say it does nothing, does it not even try to accept the biill or does it take it and spit it back out?

Also, (I am not familiar with that setup) is the cash can seated firmly? When it does it's power up thing, does it cycle just once or so or does it cycle a bunch of times?

I don't know how to do the self test or set a denomination.

When a bill is inserted it does nothing.  No attempt.

Yes the cash box is seated firmly in the tray with the connector engaged.

It just cycles once.

Thanks for helping.

Do you know what SP chip is in there? If not, follow these directions to find out.

In the top window it is flashing 3742 and in the bottom window it is 0626.

I don't have a PSR for the SP626. But it should be close enough to a SP611.

So with no credits on the machine, press the self test button just a couple of times until you have a 0 in the coins played and a 5_x in the winner paid. (x could be 0, 1 or 2). Then turn the jackpot key about 3 times or so until you have a 9_x in the winner paid. It will either be 9_0 or 9_1. If it's 9_0, the BV is not enabled.

I did this and it is reading 9  1.

Ok, then it's enabled. You can also try pressing the self test until you get a 6 in the coins played. Then you should have a number that shows the denomination (i.e. 25 for a quarter machine). Most likely that is set, but it can't hurt to check.

I see the BV says it's a DBV-145. But I don't know if it's different for your machine than any other DBV-145. Can you see any dip switches on it (on the bottom of the head)? If so, how are they set?

Yes, it shows 25.

dip switches 1 through 8 are all off.  There is a second bank of dip switches with number 1 on and number 2 off.

I think I might have found the problem.  Eight of the pins on the serial cable are missing (broken).  Would there be any reason that these would have been intentionally removed?

Here is my cable.

Without knowing how the cable is wired, it's hard to say if those pins are used. Typically pins 2 & 3 are very important (TX and RX). On a male plug, that would be the pins that are broken.  But I can't say for sure if they are using a standard pinout.  IF they were broken intentionally, it may have been to disable the BV for a sale in certain areas.

Maybe you can look at the female mating connector and see which pins have wires going to them.

I don't think the cable is the problem.  I opened up the sheath at the factory splice.  There are 11 wires not being used and there are 11 broken pins.  I was hoping to find more wires than unbroken pins.

I would put a meter to it to see if the good
pins match the wires used.

I still think you have a Western Money system installed in your machine. Western Money systems used JCM heads in their systems, in your case a DBV-145. what writing is on the chip that you posted in reply # 8.

I see where the interface is plugged into the motherboard, where do the two white wires terminate, it appears they are going over to the motherboard as well?  I see where the two black wires are hooked directly into the AC terminal block to provide 115 to the transformer.

So you are getting power, the interface is getting to the board, unit should make a complete cycle (several types of noises) . problems with units were in the area of the serial db connector that mates with the bill stacker( the metal unit that plugs in).

Don't have a clue where that plug should go? appears that all the connections are in place.
