Slot Losers of America / Tokie Owens

« on: September 22, 2009, 11:14:59 AM »

The Johnson Act was created by the US government in the 1950's to stop the spread of illegal slots and the Gambling Devices Act of 1962 made everyone that had anything to do with the slot business register with the government. My argument is this: we as a nation are much more mature about things like this at this point in time. Legal gaming has exploded all over the place and it is coming to a town near you..........this was unheard of many years ago. Lots of governments are short of money and need the gaming revenue to survive. Hell, slots are being sold a Costco and on the internet and most people just don't register with the government (they don't know what they don't know). This is just another bueracratic monster that requires employees, paperwork, filings, etc. I think that it is time to just repeal the Johnson Act as it has outlived it's usefulness in this modern day and age. Local governments already have the proper laws on the books to deal with things like this anyway. It's time to show "Howard Johnson" da door!
