Just wanted everyone to know that I used the website to obtain my DOJ and received it in less than a week.
If interested go to www.usdoj.gov/criminal/oeo/links/gambling and you can fill out the registration there print it, sign it, scan it and email to Gambling.Registration@usdoj.gov
In the past I have always received mine at the beginnig of the year. this is nice to get it so quick.

Excellent post slots4home for all here.  Unfourtantly The regular free doj does me no good for what I would like to do.  Costs Big Bucks- money To play/Buy with the Big Dogs-(Brokers).  Try and use this at a casino machine auction.-- :60-Not happening.  You have to have the expensive license to do those--I am not sure about the indian casino machine auctions however- Scratch Head.   The money spent also is dictated by that state's specific gaming commision's guidelines and groping- bawling.  Thanks B.  If you want a game 3rd party etc. then the doj can help you-But if it is done properly it is tracked and entered into the "books".  Thanks B.

There is hardly any information anywhere on how to become a casino broker. But I think it would cost lots of money. PA wants fifty million dollars just for a slot license, just can't pony up fifty milllion dollars. Even working a second job.

I think that if you just have a machine or 2 in your home and
just play it for fun and using it as a piggy bank - that's fine....no harm done. propeller
You can always argue to any judge that all you wanted was a piece of the American Dream! LOL  waving flag American Flag
But, once you start paying the wins to your neighbor or nanny who plays it...
then you're just asking for big time trouble! frying pan

Same thing with a DOJ document...that piece of paper only invites
unwanted scrutinizing seeing-eye glasses into your private home that most homeowners are not
capable nor are willing to deal with -
as compared to guys that buy/sell this stuff as a source of additional income.

Which brings us back to square one.
Homeowners using care in owning these machines and
never ever using them for gambling purposes whatsoever - should have no worries.
However, applying for a DOJ license as a homeowner - would only cause red flags to go up in my small town...

That's my take on this...if anyone has any additional thoughts -
I would love to hear them!
We can all learn from this... yes
Does anyone on this forum believe we are approaching respectable numbers and
know how to actively campaign for the legalization of the home ownership of slot machines -
irrespective of the frigging age of a machine, or for that matter, whatever state you live in?
It makes no sense to me why some states have a 25 year law or a 20 year law -
My Lord! You can gamble with a 50 year old machine jeepers creepers!! rotflmao

Wait, do I need to be concerned about the IGT poker machine I have?  I provide the quarters and do not "pay out" since my money paid to play.  How do I get more info on this.  YIKES!  They sell machines all over around here, I didn't think about needing to let the justice dept know.

Love an idea as to where to go for more info.

Slot ownership law differs from state to state.
For instance PA (where I lived and managed to purchase 4 machines) had a 1943 law.
This reads that you are not allowed to own machines that were built after 1943....
Which makes a lot more sense vs the more common 25 year law as some S+ and PE+ machines are reaching that vintage and are perfectly good machines.
In other locations like Louisanna and California slots of any age are disallowed.

I have since moved to Canada (to avoid the slot law and to dodge the draft  rotflmao )

In states where slots are legal (including AZ) the bottom line is that ownership for the sake of personal entertainment is legal. Just like owning a pinball.

Gambling in any form is illegal.  So if you were to have the boys over for a friendly game of Holdem' or ran a superbowl pool where everyone buys a square for a buck. You have just violated the law .... most (sane) people just don't give a hoot but you get that one idiot who is a sore loser and decides to call the cops ... and .... you and your toys could become impounded.

I run my slots off of tokens that way none of the neighborhood kids loose their lunch money. It could be argued that I redeem tokens for cash or vice versa but it would be hard to prove.

HAH - I run my machines off tokens, that way the neighborhood kids (mine) don't take my money for their lunch. When I used coins, the hoppers were empty in a few days. Of course, I could have invested in locks  Duh!

I think a DoJ license mainly comes in handy for shipping machines interstate - that's the only case the Feds are allowed to be interested in. In-state laws vary a lot. In Nevada I can only sell up to three machines in a year without a gaming license, and I'm supposed to file a lengthy form of the purchaser's personal details with the state AG and wait seven days for approval, etc. Since I've never parted with a machine it doesn't affect me much.

I DONT SELL ON EBAY ITS NOT ME .

« Reply #9 on: December 09, 2009, 01:14:25 PM »

this post is not about slot machines .. but about legal things that you can get arrested for ..does that make sense ?? NO IT DOES NOT

but i will explain .. I will post this as a hypothetical I  have a friend i grew up with is a few yrs older than myself ..
he>> WAS<<  a licensed pyrotechnics expert for yrs . now lets use the state of-TENN . for the hypothetical story .. to speed this up after he lost all his license's  . yrs ago--for a incident that was ilegall at the time .

he still makes fireworks etc --not firecrackers lol the ones you see at shows on the 4th of july etc .. BIG STUFF !!

he continues to travel across the united states to states that allow shows of there >>called artistry <<in the sky .
well last year . he purchased FROM THE U.S. GOV.  55 gal drums of  grindings of titanium & other metals used in the fireworks that they roll into the layers
of paper etc to give the pretty colors you see in the sky . Now anybody can buy from the goverment these products .. which come from some machine shop
floors etc . then are swept up and re-sold . so my hypothetical friend buys 6 or 8 drums 55 gallon from the united states goverment .
pays them -- has it delivered by railroad -to a yellow frieght terminal --  THIS IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD !! they at yellow frieght even load his 1-ton chevy van with these 55 gal drum barrels --that weigh about 400lbs each . the product is sold by the pound ! its just metal

once he leaves the yellow frieght terminal he starts his 45 minute ride home . what happens he gets a nail in his rear tire gets a flat tire !
a state trooper kindly stops -offers to drive him 10 minutes to his house to get the spare tire he left out . when he gets back to the van there is a
BOMB SQUAD WAITING LOL RODE BLOCKED OFF YELLOW CRIME SCENE TAPE THE WHOLE 9 YARDS LOL - YELLOW FRIEGHT HAD CALLED THE FEDS
AFTER HE PICKED UP HIS DELIVERY . SAYING THAT THE WEIGHT AMOUNT THAT THIS MAN PURCHASED AT ONCE VIOLATED THE "PATRIOT ACT "

mind you now they are just drums of metal ground up --no explosives -no gun powder - not even a road flare was in his van ..
he buys the product from the united states goverment to start with . pays for it on his credit card . the reason YELLOW FRIEGHT CALLED THE FEDS WAS BECAUSE THE WEIGHT AMOUNT HE RECIEVED ON ONE ORDER EXCEEDED THE AMOUNT FOR ONE PERSON TO HOLD OR RECIEVE AT ONE TIME !!

so his van gets confiscated -- 2008 brand new van he gets labled a mad bomber lol when as I said there was no explosives at all on his body or van or his property that they raided 30 minutes after he got his spare tire lol..

our own goverment sells the metals --when he placed the order via phone call he was never told from sales woman on phone he could only have
"X" AMOUNT OF WEIGHT OF THESE PRODUCTS . YELLOW FRIEGHT COVERED THERE ASS CALLING THE FEDS !!

HE ENDS UP LOCKED UP FOR 48 HRS then goes to court several times with all cases dismissed -- because the woman that works for goverment did not say to him >> hey you can not buy more than 800lbs of one metal --he had 1200lbs of that particular metal .. they re-leased his van and confiscated one barrel of titanium that weighed 400lbs so he was in complience ..

NOW IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG HERE ??  EVEN AFTER "911"  YES !!

GOV SELLS METALS THAT CAN BE USED IN ANY SCIENCE EXPERIMENT IN SCHOOLS !! THIS POOR GUY BUYS THE STUFF LEGALLY BUT IS NOT TOLD THE WEIGHT LIMIT TO HAVE AT ONE TIME . THE GOVERMENT SALES WOMAN WRITES UP THE INVOICE FOR THE OVERLIMIT LOAD .

YELLOW FREIGHT KNOWS THIS >?? BUT WAITS UNTIL THE OWNER PICKS IT UP >>TO GET IT OFF THERE TERMINAL << TO AVOID A RAID THERE . IF MY BUDDY NEVER GOT A FLAT TIRE LOL...
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN HOME AND MOST LIKELY ALREADY SOLD VARIOUS AMOUNTS OF WEIGHT OF THE METALS TO OTHER GUYS/GALS USING IT FOR THE SAME THING .

now my question was what about schools etc that buy chemicals or colleges that buy chemicals -- ground metal !! I dont believe for one second that
some college does not buy more than 800lbs of titanium  for the students ARE >> SCHOOLS >> COLLEGES -ETC
ARE THEY EXCEMPT FROM THE PATRIOT ACT ??   NO WAY .. MORAL OF THIS STORY IS THATS OUR GOVERMENT !!FOR SELLING A OVERLIMIT AMOUNT TO ONE PERSON -- AND DONT GET A FLAT TIRE LOL

he would of had the stuff shipped to his house .but where he lives a tractor trailer could not even get near his home .
even one of the long 22-27 foot 6 wheelers with the power tailgate would of been ripping down every phone line in his neighborhood ..

Iwill toss you email on the side .. but its so funny i cant type it .. while smoking his 2-pack a day paul maul habit .he was rolling a rocket loaded with the real stuff .. but hanging out of mouth at all times . that was not it !! it was walking by the salimander heater with 50 lbs of ka-boom that started to sprinkle itself all over the heater on the outside . that when the 50 foot trailer factory went up to the height of the clouds and knocked every house off its foundation for 1500 feet .he only spent 4 months in drug induced coma and recovered 100% with 80% of his body cooked .. he was in demolitions in nam .. he loves the noise they make --plus never has learned his lesson lol

I've not seen that on sales that are for 25+ year old machines. There's even a couple of slot repair shops in the Bay Area, but they are EM only.

I think you're discussing eBay sales, and they are erring on the side of caution so as not to be held responsible a la Napster.

Of course, I could be wrong...

I think that PA is a 25 yr state now as I followed a link that had nothing but every state's statute listed as it pertained to gaming laws. I guess common sense applies here: if you want to do something that is illegal just make sure that no one knows about it, period. Like I say in my "tounge in cheek" disclaimer, I do not advocate the violation of US or Canadian laws with regard to HOW you use your slot machine(s). That would be like starting a thread "How to Commit Crimes". I don't think anyone would start a thread like that. With regard to the DOJ, I have nothing to hide, if the FBI wanted to break down my door and harass me, so be it. Like Freddie Mercury once said in a famous song "I've commited no crime"

330.7.  (a) It shall be a defense to any prosecution under this
chapter relating to slot machines, as defined in subdivision (d) of
Section 330b, if the defendant shows that the slot machine is an
antique slot machine and was not operated for gambling purposes while
in the defendant's possession. For the purposes of this section, the
term "antique slot machine" means a slot machine that is over 25

As above, I never heard of anybody getting prosecuted simply for having a machine that was less than 25yrs old. I think that the bigger picture here is intent (did you intend to gamble or let others gamble, if not, no case). I am not a lawyer, nor do I pretend to be, just my 0.02 opinion. I really think that the overall picture is this: if you are a slot enthusiast, not using real currency or money, not gambling, etc, then I think it would get thrown out. Unless you act like a wise-ass in court.

well i agree on many points you made .. but what many dont see or understand is the location of said machine or machines
if the machine was sitting in a local GIN MILL  then it could be used for public use even though its a token in token out machine

if you have 30 plus machines at your home etc and you have 28 run on tokens and two run on quarters ? have kids that have kid friends over and say to there pals ..oh Billy Smith has a CASINO in his dads house etc . that takes quarters from me ?/
then you may have the knock knock on door !!

placement -state -common sense - talking about it -- bragging about it -- they all come into play how the law enforcement look at things -- can you buy a cd -at Wallmart to play slots on a home pc ?/ ==yes   is that legal ?? its all in how someone interprets the law on the books .. & state you live in !!
