it is for the lm350t   I have seen several of these usage schematics with 1 and .1 uF caps so I was thinking it might be one of those.  The funny thing is that it is clearly in the position of like R1 in the schematic you posted.  I just noticed one of them seems slightly legible and says +10 35.  Maybe + for positive pin 10 uF and 35 volts?  Way to many years since electronics.

I don't think the circuit would work with it in the place of R1 since the regulator needs a voltage divider for feedback. In any case, it's just a filter cap, so I would go with 1uf. Or just leave whatever you have in there since it's working. It probably went bad because of the AC from the bad bridge rectifier and the regulator was also probably putting out some large AC ripple which cooked the polarized cap.

Poppo,  I should clarify the placement of the cap.  It is parallel to the actual R1 resistor in this case and I have not seen one used like that in the samples.  I guess that it developed some internal resistance and told the regulator to go lower on the voltage.  I guess maybe I should just leave it.  It was probably killed rather than dying on its own.

Hmmm... Does the LM350 have a voltage adjustment pot? If not, perhaps it's a confiruation like this where a fixed resistor is used in place of R2 on this schematic, and then a cap would be in parralel.

You don't have to use a variable resistor for these regulators if the voltage does not have to be exact. You just use a value that will get you the desired output voltage.

But in any case as long as it's working, I would not worry about it.

no pot or diodes involved.  It does have an R2 that goes off into never never land, at least I couldn't determine where it went.  I disconnected the R2 on the extra board and voltage didn't change.
