Title: Bally GameMaker Ticket Printer
Post by: whinkle on March 29, 2009, 12:20:42 PM
Was wondering if anyone knew how to get my ticket printer working in my GameMaker.  It has power to it.  When I first pulled it out, the error light was lit red.  I stuck a ticket I had from the casino into it and the error light went out and the ready light lit green.

When I do a total clear on the machine, under the setup options "Printer" is listed but says none.  When I go to change the options, it just bypasses over printer all together and wont let me select it.

Any ideas???  No big deal if I can't get it to work... would just be cool.

If I need to take pictures of anything, just let me know what of  ;D

What brand of printer and what mains are you using?

I'm wondering if the setup menu on the the machine is dynamic and won't offer the selection if it doesn't recognize the unit as a valid printer. :103-
Here's the excerpt from the manual:

Printer Type
The Game MakerĀ® will support thermal printers
manufactured by Seiko Instruments, Inc., and
Transact Technologies, Inc. The choices are SEIKO
PRINTER, ITHAKA 800 PRINTER
, or NONE. Select one choice
to match the hardware installed in the machine.

This will be a future endeavour of mine, for now I have enough projects.  If someone else sorts this out in the meantime, it will make it easier for me to add a ticket printer to mine.  I'm pretty sure the one I had with a ticket printer was future logic.  I wonder if I have pics somewhere.

Thanks,
Wayne

When I first got my machine it was using -22 Mains and it didn't even have "Printer" on the setup screen.  I am currently using -24 Mains and it does show up.  The Brand of printer in the machine is a Seiko PSA-66 Thermal Ticket Printer.  Here are some different pictures of the inside of my machine.  Maybe it is unplugged somewhere else???

I dont see the power to the printer conntected, also the printer has an RS232 board in the mididle of the chain (wrapped in plasic shrink wrap).  Pull up the connector from the top hole and see if it's direct to the backplane or if the RS232 board is in the middle.

Printer had its own power supply (24V) from a standard power brick that goes into the black and white wires, looks like it's not connected or the power supply is missing,

Chasing the wires would be where I'd start.  The power must be hooked up since he said it was lit up error until he fed a ticket in it.  What position are the dip switches in?

Thanks,
Wayne

agreed but it does not looks like it has power in the pictures.

I would make sure the printer goes to the backplane etc.

This 2-pin plug (Circled in yellow) is the printer's power plug...it needs to go to a transformer>>

The power supply is rather expensive from Happs though...
It's similar to this except the plug itself needs to match the white 2-pin molex on yours.

That plug isn't the power plug, and as he said it is powered up, also I don't believe the power supply shown is for his.  From the printer the harness has that extra connector, the power connects to the other end of the harness.  Here are some pics of a similar set up for a Bally S6000  *** note three wires connect to backplane on the model shown, I'm sure it is more on a gamemaker.  Future logic is the maker.
I think a different set of mains would work for him., however wouldn't be surprised if a wire is cut or something is disconnected.

I may delve into this with more time in the future, that is if it isn't solved by then.

Thanks,
Wayne

I agree that that 2-pin molex comes from the back of the printer... :89-
The printer must have power 2 sources to choose from then...
because I've been using the 2-pin molex for the printer's power from a small 24Vdc desktop transformer.
Which, in turn, powers the bezel lights.
I could use a new bezel for this if anyone has one... :89-

Here's a link to the printer manual>>

It looks like you are back feeding your power through the bezel port.  It says modulated, you might want to check this

The printer does have power because the ready light is lit green and it feeds tickets through it.  It does have the RS232 board in the middle of the chain as you described.  Where do I check to see if it is plugged into the backplane??

Where are the dipswitches located at and I will check.  I am pretty new to all of this and need guidance  :103-  Thanks in advance for the responses so far  :3-

I don't know if I quite understand this  :103- What do you mean when you say it says "modulated"???  I took the front cover off of it and the only thing plugged into the little plug in the front is the bezel that lights up and says "Receive Tickets Here".

I was actually replying to stayouttadabunker on the back feeding, yours is most likely connected at the correct spot.  the dip switches ar at the rear of the ticket printer under the ribbon cable  take a look at the manual stay... posted a link to.

The picture you took of your backplane board isn't legible.  What does it say beside each connector that the loose plug would fit in.  The schematics I have don't look exactly like yours but may work with this info.

Thanks,
Wayne

I am not in front of it but I think printer is printed on one of the backplane connectors.

I have seen the printer powered two ways but I could not see the lights lit in the picture - oh well...

After you make sure it's connected to the backplane run a test print from the diag menu.

Also you have to have the right mains as noted in many threads.

Thanks everyone... I will take a look at the backplane board when I get home from work today :)

I checked my backplane, same as Whinkle's and only found on connection that shows Print/Hopper on the board. There are no other obviously marked connections for printer on the backplane other than this connection. This connector is in the lower left corner of backplane, pic is below.

Yep... mine is just like tacmans pic.  Here are a couple of other pics.  I don't see any wires that are cut or anything so I am at a loss as how to get it to work.  Unless anyone has any other suggestions, I'm going to chalk it up as a lost cause.  :37-

The second pic shows it unplugged.  I unplugged it just to take the pic.

If everything is connected, software and settings would be next.  You don't have to give up on this, give it time and go at it again.  perhaps someone with the same model will try out various mains.  Mine is a V7000, yours is a V7200, while the main board is the same, the backplane board is different. I have had V7200 machines and will likely get more in the future.  I'm sure somebody will solve this.  Try different jurisdictions and settings after an eeprom saferam clear.  what is your current setting?

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks for the reply... I will try different settings tomorrow and post what I find out.  I believe my current jurisdiction is "one".  I will verify tomorrow.

Post by: whinkle on April 02, 2009, 06:30:30 PM
Well, I tried different jurisdiction settings and no go.  I did end up changing from jurisdiction 1 to 5 which is default though.  When the initial settings screen comes up, everything says "Not Selected" except for Printer which says "None" and Hopper which says "Coin".  No matter what I do, when changing the settings, it bypasses both printer AND hopper.  Also, when I open the main door, a box pops up and says "Bill Acceptor: No errors / No Printer.

I think with my -22 mains, Printer didn't even show up in the settings.  With my -24 mains, it does though.

On another note... on the picture I took that shows the plug-in for the backplane board, there is a red wire that comes out of it and loops back into itself.  Is is supposed to be like that?

the only thing i know of is to put a hopper simulator in them, the ticket printer will not work but machine plays as if it had a hopper,
you can also go to coin, need to get hopper and all the coin in parts,

Sorry for the confusion... my machine does have a hoppere and it works fine... just wanted to get the ticket printer working if possible also  :96-

Lets start at the beginning.

When you do your saferam clear are you switching jumpers 7 and 8?  you would need to do this in order to change the settings.

Did you physically trace your wires from the printer and find it connected or not?

Thanks,
Wayne

I do switch the 7 & 8 jumpers when doing a clear.  When I trace the wires from the printer to the backplane board, everything appears to be ok.  That is why I am so stumped.

Has anyone ever got a newer (2002 up) Gamemaker to print tickets in Stand Alone like the S-6000, don't have game here trying to help a customer who bought these from another dealer who said they worked, but even if set up goes to hand pay, figure needs certain mains, they have tried a few but didn't know what ones, at least on the menu, just wanted to point them in right direction on the Mains that work, Thanks

Ok... I am one step closer to getting this to work.  I went through and set up my machine according to OhioGaming's suggestions.  I was actually able to select my printer type this time... before it wasn't even an option to select... it just bypassed it.  It still doesn't work though and I don't know if my actual printer is no good or what.  The following is what comes up on the screen when I turn the machine on...

Bill Acceptor: No Errors
Printer: Hardware Error -- Replace Printer
Printer: Offline
Host Comm: Link Down

And in the middle of the screen over top of the games it says...

Game Disabled
Printer Fault
Close Door For Tilt Release

When I go into the setup and choose Configuration and then Printer Test, it says the following... (* means the box is filled in)

* Hardware Error
* Offline
   Printer Closed
   Platten Down
   Paper Loaded
   Paper Not Jammed
* Paper In Chute
   Paper Not Low

And at the bottom of this screen it says...

Printer: Ithaca 850
Software: (This is blank)

Any thoughts???

I am officially a Blond  :208-

I followed OhioGaming's instructions to a T... Literally... lol  I selected my Printer as an Ithaca when in fact it was a Seiko... hahaha

Now I was probably stupid for trying this, but I don't have any tickets so I cut out a piece of paper the size of the ticket but nothing prints on it.  Is that because the actual tickets are special in some way for the thermal printing or do I have another issue alltogether?

If it is because it needs real tickets, does anyone have any they would like to sell to me?

I am also trying to get a ticket printer working.  There has never been on in my unit.  As for the connector that was posted I followed mine to the hopper plug???  The backplane is labeled prnt (or something similiar). Is there anyone that may have a harness for this??
