It was working last week. I turned off mahine and went back to turn it on this weekend, but it will not register the coin when dropped, it just goes straight through and ends up in the bin below. The bill acceptor works though.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance, man it sux being new at this stuff

Did you take out the coin from the comparitor ?
Did the wiring harness fall off the side of the comparitor ?
Does the Insert Coin light flash

My noob experience was similar - turned the machine on. No matter what I did I could not get it to take the coins.
DOOH - I found that I had already inserted 3 coins and the machine was waiting for me to hit spin reels so it wasn't accepting any more coins.
house rule now is play off any coins and credits before shutting down the machine.....
Bonus is that sometimes the wife DOESNT wait up..... LOL

No I did not remove or even touch the coin comparitor

I need to check the wiring harness.

I did notice a yellow LED light that is on under the coin comparitor, but not sure if that was alrady there.

The yellow LED light should be on...
Take the whole coin comparitor out and see if it's jammed up or something...?

wait..."coins are falling through" so it's NOT jammed up... Duh! face in palm

Is the pseudo toggle switch on the MPU in the "UP" position?
Maybe you flipped it down when powering down last week?

Glad to hear that it's working.  propeller

Do you mean that you pressed the reset button on the front of the MPU board?

I've had this happen with my Bally 5500s, but fortunately not with my Gamemaker. Maybe it's a Bally design problem. Scratch Head

I've never found a root cause, but my 5500s will also just stop taking coins every so often, and usually, one or three resets will fix the problem.

Okay then, does anyone know why Ballys do this from time to time?  Scratch Head

Agreed, but is there an electronic or design issue behind it, or are we going to attribute it to the logo on the glass? frying pan  Tongue Out

LOL

Anyways...
I think there are some flaws in their board design because the MPU batteries die all the time.
These are NOT serious flaws in any way.
There's WAY more good things about their board and machine designs than the negatives.
Stop being so negative Stat! lol ( just kidding)

I wish I knew what causes these glitches...I highly suspect it's an IC component thing that
went a little too low with the specs when the engineers should have went
with a little better or more expensive choice of component.

Can you imagine being a board engineer designer in such a highly competitive industry
with tightwads breathing down your neck yelling "Hurry Up!!!"?
Arghhhh!  frying pan frying pan frying pan frying pan

That happens even in small businesses on a small scale. The owner of one company I worked for decided to order cheaper brand components one time for a proprietary circuit board that my supervisor had designed, and the boards had problems. My supervisor had to order the proper components and get them swapped out to fix the issues, and then scold the owner for being a cheapskate.

I remember talking with him and he told me that when he designed the board he knew from experience that certain brands and types of components worked well together while others did not, even though the on-paper specs might be the same. The layout and orientation of components on the board also mattered in some cases. He had taken the time to match the proper components that he knew would be reliable together, and the owner screwed it up by trying to save a few cents. It ended up costing him more in the long run.
