Hi, today I got about 5000 tokens and they are not the cleaniest, but they were free. What is the easiest and best way to clean them?  The tokens are retired 25 cent ones from casinos. thanks, Mike

For that many you might want to hit one of the department stores and get one of the liquid silver cleaners that you just add to water and clean them in the sink (cheap).

You can also get these electrolitic plates that you put on the bottom of the sink, you then add in the activator into the warm water, and the tarnish smply falls off.
I use a plastic strainer with a hand full or two at a time.

Make sure they are good and dry before you start using them again.

Any coin collector would be horrified at these recommendations as anytime you do this the assey-value of the coin is altered. For that matter a coin collector would not drop a coin into a slot as it may become damaged by its interaction with the other coins. I think we both know that these tokens are not in the same catagory as gold or silver collectables despite what we think of our hobby.

In the sink with soapy water works for me, I 'd let them soak for a while then go at them with a brush.

Some say vinegar works well.  You can fill a large jar with coins and vinegar and tumble clean then rinse the coins with water.

Thanks,
Wayne

The dirty coins come from dirty hands....all the natural oils in our fingers pass on the tarnish.
You might want to wear white cotton gloves while playing. I have an antique clock (early 1800's) with real brass weights. I wear these while winding as the brass tarnishes really easy.

I also understand this also really helps with ones moon walk ......  rotflmao

I've been known to fill a couple of socks with tokens and toss them in with a load of laundry, after the cycle is finished lay them out and let them dry for a few hours... quick and effortless

I can't put my finger on why, exactly, but I am sorry that I unable to keep abreast of this topic when the thread was active, as I usually like to have a hand in such discussions, to coin a phrase.  Tongue Out

When I get new tokens, I always throw them in the case tumbler I use for cleaning spent brass before reloading it. After that, a little soap and water cleans them up nicely.

It's kind of a pain because I can only do about 300 per load, but the come out clean as a whistle!
