Title: GameMaker Hopper problem
Post by: Jimise on January 03, 2010, 02:35:07 AM
Hello all again, Thanks to StatFreak for the help with the coin comparitor....
My other problem is with hopper on this machine.
Do you use the same hopper for a nickle machine, And a quarter machine?

If so is there some adjustment between the two?

Right now when my machine pays out the nickles, (it seems to kick them out fine) it only counts about one for every 10-15 coins it kicks out.
I believe this was a quarter machine. I put some quarter tokens through it and it worked fine.

Thanks again for the help!!  Jim....

If your hopper is like mine, the optic is attached to a metal plate that is secured to the hopper body with three Phillips head screws. If you loosen the screw closest to the optic (and perhaps the second one in the middle) you might be able move the optic down just a tad. Then again, you might not if it is already completely seated.

Another poor man's trick that might work would be to move the plastic knife upwards (away from the shelf wheel) just a little bit. This can work because the size of the nickel and quarter are very close together, but you can't move the knife much or coins will get caught on the edge and the knife could snap. Don't move the sharp tip more than about 1/32" to 1/16" above the shelf wheel. To move it, loosen the two bolts that hold it from the back side of the hopper plane. If you are looking at the front of the hopper, they are below the optic.

The proper solution is to buy a nickel shelf wheel to replace the quarter wheel. Can you post a picture of the hopper with nickels in place at the top of the wheel, showing the shelf and the pin positions? I'm not great at determining these things by eye, but other members are. We can then be sure that this is your problem before you buy a replacement.

Great, I will pull out the hopper and see if I can adjust the optic down. (Nothing to lose anyway)
Thanks!

Hello StatFreak,
Well the poor mans trick worked! I moved the metal knife up just a bit, and it works perfect so far.

The optic was screwed in with the 3 screws, and would not adjust. Although the screws were a bit loose.

Thanks again StatFreak, and everyone at NLG! You have saved me Hours of aggravation  :103- , Trying to figure this out!

You should probably buy a nickel shelf wheel and possibly a pin wheel as well for a long-term solution. If your coin head is also quarter sized, you should get the nickel head to complete the conversion.
