Title: Atronic Emotion - Dead LCD
Post by: TZtech on November 27, 2011, 05:09:46 PM
Hi All

Although the emotion is one of the more attractive and unique cabinets on the market be warned that getting to the screens if something does go wrong is a major pain in the ass. Please see attached for inverter fix.

yeah these TFT LCD's are a serious pain to replace.  I had the "honor" of being the first at our casino to attempt an LCD swap on an eMotion because some of our Guests seem to enjoy watching touch screens getting gouged.  this one was so bad that the bonus round was pretty much impossible when trying to use the touch screen and also we couldn't pull up game and event history on the machine without several minutes of trying to get the "touch" in the correct spot.
it took me about 1.25 hours on my first attempt with the help of the highly non-detailed eMotion manual.  after about 3 of them i was able to get it down to about 20-25 minutes; still way to damn long to change a monitor if you ask me.  these suck because you have to nearly totally disassemble the freaking door to get to the LCD.
that inverter in your tech note is the same one as we see in some of our Kortek LCD's used in Konami games.  i'm sure its slightly different but we also change out the two power mosfets at u2 and u4 with the caps.  we've had about a 90% repair rate on them since including the mosfets where it was only about 60% with the caps.  much more inexpensive then new inverters!!

the LCD replacements on eMotions are no longer an issue for me though; we pulled them from our floor after about 4 years of play and traded them all in on some Konami machine purchases!!

I would say that for me for 90% of all failures CCFL inverters of low price and poor quality electrolytic capacitors and the producer calculated to two years warranty it life inverters did not last too long ... Why pay more for branded Low ESR capacitors with life minimal 5 years ? When there can be something cheap and damage switching FETs ...

I see it is an old topic, but I will try anyway.

I have one E-motion with broken LCD, but I don't know how to get to the LCD itself. I have managed to remove that up-down sliding box that holds both LCD's and button panel but what next. How to open that box to get to the LCD's.

Thank you for your help, but this part, shown in the manual, is already done. The problem is how to open this "playfield" and get to the LCD.

Its been a while - fortunately we rid ourselves of this evil  :96-
You need to remove the top glass and also the button deck (There should be small lever on the back of the playfiled to remove both. Underneath these You will find the big screws holding the 2 halves together. Also the Metal logo between the 2 lcd's is secured with screws from the back of the playfiled.
