Title: DBV ID Types for PE+?
Post by: knagl on January 17, 2009, 05:50:20 AM
Greetings.

I just added a side-mount bill validator to my PE+ bartop drop in machine (yes, it looks silly, but it's functional).  I also added one to a friends machine as well.

We tried enabling it on his machine with a SET 38 chip.  The enabling process went fine, and the machine was correctly controlling the enable/disable function of the acceptor (based on the lights in the bezel).

However, the machine wouldn't accept any bills.  It would read a bill, wait a second or two, then reject it (DBV 145, by the way, using standard $1 bills to test).  I seem to remember Jim (Blueridge) saying that would be typical behavior if the ID was wrong for the game or machine.  The game that was in there was superboard Double Double Bonus Poker (X002066P).

I should mention that these validators came off of some PE+ keno machines that may not have been superboards in them.

I went home to my machine and tried to enable the validator on my superboard Bonus Poker (X000203P).  The enabling process seemed to take, but when I replaced the set chip with my program chip, I got a CMOS DATA (expected), pushed the test button for a few seconds, ding, close door, turn reset key.  I then got "EEPROM DEVICE".  Not good.

I made sure the board and chip were seated correctly, they were.  Tried again, got stuck again at EEPROM DEVICE (no way to get past it).

I tried my non-superboard board and after a GAME TYPE and CMOS DATA, I was able to get the machine to work.  I tried my superboard again, no dice -- same EEPROM DEVICE message.  I had a spare superboard and tried that.  This time I got a "GAME TYPE" message and was able to get the thing started.  I then tried my primary superboard and it then worked.   :103-   :3-

I decided it would be a good idea to NOT try that again, so I installed the non-superboard (Jacks or Better - PP0060), got it running, did the whole set chip thing, and the darn validator works like a charm (this one is a DBV 200).

So, with that information, will my validator work with a superboard game?  Is the ID type the same for the non-superboard games as it is for the superboard games?  What determines the ID type -- is that part of the DBV head?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:
I took a closer look at the validator with the 200 head.  It's a DBV200-B123.  Per the manual, that's a "B" Flat IGT tray, SS type socket, ID 22/23.  There is an EPROM on the bottom of the thing which reads, "DBV-200 SS ID-022\023 USA V2.40-04-03 (49E5).

As such, I presume that this one is good to go with either the regular or superboards.  Any ideas why I got that nasty "EEPROM DEVICE" error when I first tried to enable it with the superboard?  Should I chalk it up to a possible fluke and try again?

Thanks.

The ID for most every PE+ is 022 (pulse) from what I remember, on the Keno's these all used Super Boards, on the DBV-200 to change from 022 to 023 you would turn d/s 10 ON for 022 OFF for 023, the symptom of a wrong ID would be the BV draws the money in, holds it a few seconds, then rejects it, I don't think changing board types has anything to do with the errors you are talking about, I would confirm the board to be known good in a different machine and the software as well in a different board

Thanks for the info, Jim.

The board was working both before and after the "EEPROM DEVICE" error - I have a hunch about that now (and started a different thread about it).

Anyway, I finally got the validator to enable with my superboard Bonus Poker game.  However, it was doing as you said -- it would take the bill, wait a second or two, then reject it.  I powered off, changed the dip switch on the validator head (I think it's "off" now -- it's in line with every other dip swich in the bank, where before it was the only one that was different), and powered back on -- it's now acceping bills and posting credits!  I presume if I ever go back to the non-superboard with the older game on it that I'll need to flip the dipswitch again for the other ID.

Anyhoo, K+ for the info.   :3-

Yea, there's a few sets that are different. I know my XMP00004 set needs that switch set one way, yet XMP00005 uses the other. Nice easy fix with the DBV200 tho, just a dipswitch and it's good to go. And yes it does exactly that if set improperly for the set you have in
