I was just wondering if there were any coin comparitors for the new $1 coin.  I mean the Sacagawea or presidential dollars, not the large dollars that are really hard to get in bulk now...
My machines are an I-Game and a Reel Touch...

25 cent 16e seems to work also but i have noticed that quarters are sneaking through as well not all of them but looks like 1 out of 3 . is there an adjustment to make sure only $1 get through and quarters get rejected

Updated, put a gold dollar in comparator instead of an SBA and all quarters rejscted now, and still takes both SBA and gold dollars as expected

what coin head are you using?  I tried it and it works for me too...  However, I was letting it pay me back in quarters that I left in it, figuring it was easier than dumping and sorting it.  Just to test, I dropped about 50 quarters back through and it accepted 2 of them.  I dont think I really mind those odds for my house, but I could see someone using the machine in production getting pissed...

Gee...has anyone tried adjusting the coin sensitivity dial?
Turn it all the way counter-clockwise to the left and see what happens!  stir the pot / get cooking
Betcha it will even take pennies and dimes too!  Tongue Out
I strongly do not advise putting dimes in there though or you'll have more problems such as a bent hopper knife... no

Then that's my fault. I didn't even look for a sensitivity setting. I think my machine has a defective nut between the button panel and the chair.

lol   I didn't know your chair bolted to the machine... arrow   just kidding

ANYWAYS!
I like to set my coin comparators to "excellent discrimination" via the sensitivity potentiometer dial...
I very rarely try to balance the coils...they're usually within specifications to allow for use on live gaming floors.
In other words, a slug WILL get rejected here!!!  rotflmao

i filed a Quarter head to the proper size. doing another test now with quarters getting through going to test $100 worth using a gold dollar in comp

Thank you Capt! You have DA POWER!!!  lol

What model coin comparitor are you using zarobar?
From the website, it appears that there are certain models made specifically for your coinage...
All I know offhand is that CC16's are for U.S. quarters...
I'm not familiar with dollar coins or which comparators are needed for the ones you're using.
This info of course, can be found directly from the "Coin Mechanisms Inc." website
on the right hand side of the homepage here on NLG !

I looked up the link for you...>>>

According to Coin Mechanisms Inc, they use a 14 gram weighted dampener for $1 coins.
That will have an effect of the speed/timing the $1 coins fall through the coils.

Using a weighted dampener for nickels or quarters would be counter-active but
have no bearing on whether or not your coin comparitor accepts U.S. quarters -
that is determined through the adjustment of the sensitivity potentiometer dial
and the sample coin.

However, to slightly contradict myself...  bust gut laughing  the Australian $1 coin needs a 12 gram dampener... Cry Laughing
I have no idea what the difference is between these two coins but my uneducated guess would be that the
Australian $1 coin is lighter than a U.S. casino $1 coin?
The Coin Mechanisms Inc. website wasn't too too specific on that
and did not have the coin weights...

the gold dollar and sba are slightly larger than a US quarter and smaller than a half dollar. the 14g weight is for the old IKE dollar that is 1.5" and using the cc16e 14g version

...

But you're old enough! frying pan rotflmao rotflmao rotflmao  They were in circulation, or were at least available from banks for many years after you turned 18. Crazy
I don't have nearly as many as zarobhr, but I collected all of mine from store cash registers (clerks hated them and were always happy to give them to me) and bank tellers over the years.

Even today, you can buy them for around $1.25-$1.35 each, give or take.

He was talking about large format dollars. The ones that are over 2" wide. If you get those in change, hold on to them. They were originally developed at a request by the casinos to have a dollar coin that wouldn't get mixed up with quarters in the machines. Eventually the casinos just made tokens so the govt halted production and moved towards the smaller coins to save on cost. The problem is we as Americans hate the dollar coin and refuse to use it. There is currently a law on the books that says 1 billion coins must be put into circulation. They are siting in storage because nobody wants them and it costs millions a year for the storage fees.
It's gotten so bad that "mileage hackers" would go to the mint website and buy th coins at cost to rack up points on their credit cards, and when the bill showed up, they just deposited the coins in the bank and paid their bills. Now the mint limits you to 1000 coins every ten days.

Buzz, I'm not sure if the information below is correct, since it came from Wikipedia (large grain of salt) frying pan

Quote
The largest coin ever minted by the US Mint was a gold "Half Union" pattern in 1877, weighing 83.45 grams, and 51.1 mm in diameter. The largest coin actually issued by the mint was the Panama-Pacific Exposition $50 gold commemorative, at 83.572 grams and 44 mm. An octagonal version of the coin was slightly larger, measuring 45 mm at its widest point.

That would make the Half Union round just over 2" (2.012") and the Panama-Pacific Exposition $50 1.73" IF Wikipedia is right. Tongue Out

The Ike is 1.5" (38.1mm), so you are certainly correct that it isn't anywhere near 2 inches.

The 2" was a guess at size by me. I apologize for it being incorrect. I measured it and it looks to be exactly 1.5". Every now and then I remember things being BIGGER than they actually are...

I'll have to work on that...

The mileage hacker part is true as can be seen here...

http://m.npr.org/story/137795995?url=/blogs/money/2011/07/13/137795995/how-frequent-fliers-exploit-a-government-program-to-get-free-trips

The history of the dollar coin shows that they were brought back because of pressure from the casinos and because of a need to memorialize Ike. That can be seen here...
http://www.coin-articles.com/modern-dollars/ike-eisenhower-dollars/history-of-ike-eisenhower-dollar.php

Sorry again for the misinformation on size. I just always remembered them being huge, but never measured them...

Now we know...

New Issue.  The coin comparitor is working great with some sensitivity adjustments.  My hopper is a different story.  I have a quarter hopper, and for the most part, it dispenses a coin here and there, so they fit, but I get a constant "hopper empty" message when there are still coins in there.  and a decent amout of coins too.  It looks like the little bumps on the plate arent spaced enough or thick enough to grab the coins.  What is everyone else using?
