Progressive Confusion?

ShortCourse:
Hey guys.

Im trying to get a handle on the whole "progressive" area but am struggling.

My 93 IGT RWB Deluxe has the top award with a "Progressive" label but I have no idea what its at.

If i could have everything how I wanted, I would love to have both my Double Diamond and RWB machines both on one Progressive Display.
Im not so worried about the progressive system being accurate or needing to "Talk back" to the machines.

The way we are using these are just big piggy banks.  Set up for real quarters on the Double Diamonds and real Nickels on the RWB.  A jackpot would be hand pay anyways so im thinking that even if a jackpot was hit, the machine can think its paying out whatever it wants to.  The display could be hand reset or whatever.  Its more for the entertainment factor that im after here.

I saw the "Homebrew" thread on this page using a serial BetaBrite and the Atom system and it looks like that could be rigged to work almost perfectly, just not to sure of my ability to pull the coding part of it off.  Ive even read through the full code that (Poppo?) posted with it and I do have a slight understanding of whats going on in there just because of the comments he included, but im still not 100% sold.

Im also not sure of the difference between the Spektrum systems and the IPC and the stand alone.  Im guessing its just different manufactors but are there pros and cons to either system?  If someone could point me in the right direction it would be great!  Thanks.

Heres a quick picture of what Imn working with

For your RWB progresisive, I think the easist way is to get one of these mini-proton progressive displays
and install it up behind the glass.
It's about the simplest one to set up and is designed to fit in those progressive openings.

Rudys is selling one and here's a link to it...>>>

Just custom mount it externally somewhere?

Foster:
That one is for the S2000 it connects via the SENET port in top box, wont work for the S+
They look similar and use the same display component but the controller boards are very different.

IPC = IGT Progressive Controller uses SAS to communicate with slot, other progressive components and the casino accounting system.
Spectrum is for the S+
Spectrum II is the one for i960 platforms (S2000, Vision Game King, I Game)

Stand alone usually means that the slot controls the progressive. note Mikohn uses Stand alone to mean that the Cham II+ controls the progressive with coin-in inputs from the game.

Linked means that the controller is a separate device from the machine and either sends values to the display drivers and/or machines. the early progressive controllers Con1 could not return the progressive value to the machine.
The Mikohn Cham II+ is connected to the machine and the machine is configured for a linked progressive system so the cham II gets the coin in or credit bet signals.

All progressives usually have 4 values configured in them
Current value
Base Value, the value what the system will reset after a progressive win
Max value
Either a increment percentage or value
IGT uses a percentage based increment in the S+ and S2000
Mikohn uses an actual value.

The Spectrum, Spectrum II can be used in a slot configured for stand alone or linked
stand alone the slot is the progressive controller and sends the current value to the display
in a linked setup the progressive controller(IPC, Con1, Con2, etc) send the value to slot and the slot sends the value to the Spectrum (II) display.

The 7-Segment display can also be used with the slot configured as stand alone or linked progressive (operates the same as the spectrum display)

Thanks Foster!
I didn't notice that as I was doing a quick search for one
and didn't realize that was an S2000 mini-photon display unit.

I've attached a photo of the S+ display unit below.
I think April (Lemans69) has them for sale.
She's selling an S2000 unit on ebay but I'm sure that if one got in touch
with her by email or telephone - she may have an S+ unit around...>>>
