Title: Bally 5500 83F ERROR CODES
Post by: idylewild1 on March 14, 2009, 09:12:55 PM
Have a Bally 5500 --- I think. The model number is S63M3WT10. It had an 81 error. Replaced battery. 83F error. Did ram clear using 5500 clear chips in U12 and U15. Turn power on keeps going to 83F error code. Have did ram clear two or three times with same results. Any ideas other than bad CPU board??
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Ron   when this happens it usually means that the mains chips have a different level of security and it won't let  you do that. If you have a different set of mains I would start there.

Have you tried  a hard reset ? To do a hard reset remove the board and locate the JW10 jumper pins ( located right front corner) Put the black jumper over both of the pins, insert the board back in. Push and hold the pseudo coin and test buton on the front of the board, turn the power on while holding both buttons in.The display on the front will show CHC then CLC when the lights start flashing release the buttons. Turn the power off remove the board and place the jumper back over just one of the pins.   GOODLUCK !!

You have to hold the Test and Pseudo buttons down while powering up with the chips as well I believe

:89-  ...and with or without chips, don't let go of them until you confirm the "CH C" in the winner paid window. After you release the buttons this will change to "CL C". Then turn off the machine and proceed.

Just for future searches the is 3 types Ram Clear on the Bally's,

Complete (C)

Full (F)

Partial (P)

each will show after the jumper or clear chips are in (depending on model/type needed) and follow the CH while clearing, the battery failure always needs the Complete to clear, the others keep some info in memory

And make sure the Coin Mech Switch is UP or the machine won't accept coins, this has to be the second most asked question on a Bally

I wonder why anyone would want to purposely turn off the coin mech switch?
Why would Bally even consider making a switch like that back in the 80's?

First guess....to use the games for tournament play.

I would think if the machine had issues the casino would rather just stop it from accepting money rather than having a dark machine on the floor.

That could be it....
Bally didn't have an "Out Of Order" option built into the SP chip settings like IGT's [9-1] or [9-0]...

The lights MUST be on!!!!
